Get ready for 5G with the Moto Z3

Could it be the moment mobile fans have been waiting for? The world's first 5G device has just been announced in Chicago at Motorola's headquarters. Kind of. We are talking about the Motorola Moto Z3 which will be available for purchase by the end of this month. It's not precisely the smartphone that's ready for 5G connectivity....

A new Motorola that looks kind of familiar

Motorola Moto Z3 is a strange device that combines the new with the old in a very interesting way. Like its younger brother, Moto Z3 Play, we find a large 6.01" AMOLED screen in FullHD+ (2169x1080) resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. Play also inherits the fingerprint reader on the right side and the dedicated power button on the left side. Also in this case the back of the smartphone is made of glass, it hides a 3000mAh battery and at the bottom there is a connector for Moto Mods.

The Moto Z3 Force inherits the cameras from the old Moto Z2 Force: a double 12MP sensor that has certainly didn't blow us away us in the past and an 8MP camera in the front, and the SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 accompanied by 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory. Not exactly the most powerful smartphone of 2018.

Moto Mod 5G: two separate modems and extra battery

Your smartphone isn't directly compatible with Verizon's 5G network. To take advantage of the new connectivity capable of reaching 5Gbps speed you will need to purchase a separate component: the new Moto Mod 5G that has two additional modems produced by Qualcomm in addition to an extra battery.

The first modem, the least interesting, is the X24 and allows the Mod to connect to the LTE network at a maximum speed of 2Gbps and bypass the slower X16 contained in the smartphone in case of adequate coverage. The second modem, not yet available on any smartphone on the market, and the X50 with support at 28GHz frequencies used by 5G antennas with radio waves at 4nm.

Does the Mod have an additional 2000mAh of battery, which has been introduced to "buffer" the excessive battery consumption of 5G connectivity? Only direct evidence confirm this.

At least the price is right

Moto Z3 will be exclusive to the U.S. market for the time being and will be sold in partnership with Verizon for $480 - not too much. The Moto Mod 5G will arrive only at an unspecified time in early 2019 and obviously must be purchased separately for a price not yet announced.

Would you like to get your hands on the Motorola Moto Z3? Do you think it's still too early to buy a 5G smartphone?

Yeah right, get ready for the battery driven 5g mod. Get ready for the price of this mod. If it's under 300.00 I will be very surprised. Plus being a Verizon exclusive get ready for all the bloatware, just say no Lenovorola!

So this was Lenovorola's big surprise? Meh, a mid-range phone. Huh, a 5g mod, that you can't use till who knows when. I always said the Lenovo takeover sucks, looks I was right!
