Oreo arrives on unlocked Samsung Galaxy Note 8

Owners of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 have been waiting a long, long time for Android Oreo, but the update has finally been spotted on the unlocked US versions of the phablet. In the next few days every Snapdragon Note 8 in the US should be chomping down on that delicious Android cookie.

Users who obtained their device through AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon and Sprint are already enjoying the update, but those who bought the Note 8 unlocked from Samsung are just starting to receive the update notification now. The post below also goes into details as to why carrier models will often see updates sooner than unlocked units.

The download weighs in at 1.1GB, so if your Note 8 gets the notification, try to get on Wi-Fi before starting the download. Once you've installed it, your device will be running version N950U1UEU3CRC1.

If you don't have the notification yet, bear in mind that the Android rollout is typically staggered over several days, so just sit tight and it should be with you later this week.

This build will come with the March security patch as well as all the new features of Android Oreo, including picture-in-picture mode, notification channels, notification snoozing, background app power saving. Naturally, Samsung is also introducing its own changes in the form of Samsung Experience 9.0.

As to what all these changes together entail, our analysis of Android 8/Samsung Experience 9 on the recently updated Galaxy S8, or the new Galaxy S9 could give you an idea.

Excited about Oreo coming to the Galaxy Note 8? Do you think Samsung deploys its version updates quickly enough?

The most recent update is terrible!!! I can no longer customize my notification sounds. Email and text notifications are now the same sound and everyone has the same text sound. Prior to the update I could assign a specific sound to a particular contact when receiving an incoming text. Let's hope this gets corrected asap. After the update completed downloading, my volume settings were all turned off and therefore I did not know when texts were arriving. This update takes away part of the fun of having a Galaxy Samsung.

It will be interesting, in the coming year, after all the new phones are released with Oreo 8x "must" work with Treble, which in "theory" means Google can push the main & security updates, independent of the carrier/mfg....of course, that's how it is "suppose" to work. Who knows how the carrier/mfg's will try to monkey with that.

Typical samsung quick at releasing new phones but always lacking when it comes to software updates.
