The best smartphone battery capacities on the market compared

The days where you only had to plug in your mobile phone once a week to recharge the battery are long gone. Today, you’ll be lucky to make it through the entire day with moderate usage before having to find yourself a free outlet. You might even take a look at battery saving techniques to help make your device last longer. Let’s take a look at some of the more common smartphones on the market and compare their battery capacities.

The best battery technology is basically worthless if there isn’t anything backing it up. While a battery with a higher capacity isn’t always a foolproof indicator that the battery itself will last longer before running dry, it’s a good starting point and can give you a general idea of what to expect. So, who has the biggest battery currently on the market?
Model | Battery capacity | Interchangeable? |
---|---|---|
THL 5000 | 5,000 mAh | no |
Eton Thundergod | 5,000 mAh | no |
Lenovo S860 | 4,000 mAh | no |
Huawei Ascend Mate 2 | 3,900 mAh | no |
Oppo N1 | 3,610 mAh | no |
LG G Flex | 3,500 mAh | no |
Alcatel OneTouch Hero | 3,400 mAh | no |
HTC One max | 3,300 mAh | no |
Samsung Galaxy Note 3 | 3,200 mAh | yes |
LG G Pro 2 | 3,200 mAh | yes |
Sony Xperia Z2 | 3,200 mAh | no |
OnePlus One | 3,100 mAh | no |
Xiaomi Mi 4 | 3,080 mAh | yes |
LG G3 | 3,000 mAh | yes |
Oppo Find 7 | 3,000 mAh | yes |
Oppo Find 7a | 2,800 mAh | yes |
Samsung Galaxy S5 | 2,800 mAh | yes |
HTC One (M8) | 2,600 mAh | no |
Huawei Ascend P7 | 2,500 mAh | no |
Nokia Lumia 930 | 2,420 mAh | no |
Google / LG Nexus 5 | 2,300 mAh | no |
Motorola Moto X | 2,200 mAh | no |
Motorola Moto G | 2,070 mAh | no |
iPhone 5s | 1,560 mAh | no |
As we can see, a battery with at least 3500 mAh is possible, if you’re in China. Outside of Asia, the major manufacturers don’t seem compelled to try and boost up the capacity to this limit. Batteries like the ones found in the Nexus 5 seems almost ridiculous when you compare to devices from Huawei, Lenovo, or any of the other manufacturers listed at the top. However, we musn’t overlook smartphones like the Galaxy Note 3 or LG G Pro 2 which come with a 3200 mAH replaceable battery. Thanks to this, you can cart around as many spare batteries as you think you might need.
As we stated before, the size of the battery doesn’t always mean that it will last the longest. Take a look at the iPhone 5s and the Moto G. Despite having the smallest batteries on the list, they’ve both been proven to have more than enough juice to handle themselves against devices with much more capacity.
What are your experiences with your smartphone? Do you cart around spare batteries or search out outlets in the hopes of making it through the day? Or do you limit your usage to ensure that you can make it home before your device dies?
I bought a 80000 mAh battery pack for extra long ooomph when we travel...both of our mobiles can recharge off it for a week + or just plug in when mobiles are flat and it recharges itself very quickly from any power type of supply with our multi travel plug....same size as our mobiles ...$NZ11.00 ...from China !
You seem to have left out the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 from the list. It has reliable battery life with 3100 mAh that last through the day with substantial usage. I've had it for almost 2 years and I still love it.
They just avoided repeated entries of same mAh. You can check that even the S4 is not present at 2500
I so wish that HTC would bring back the replaceable battery. Been buying Samsung since they started sealing them.
Life on the move means we all rely on portable devices to save ourselves time and effort. And thus, it is very important that your smartphone has long life so that it can cope up with your busy schedule.
