Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman wrote in his latest Power On newsletter that the iPhone SE 4 will most likely be able to run Apple Intelligence at launch. Similar to previous rumors, the next-generation budget iPhone SE could hit the scene as early as 2025 compared to the end of this year.

Which chipset will power Apple’s next iPhone SE?

While this development would be surprising, it also suggests the next-generation iPhone SE could feature powerful internals to enable this wide range of new generative AI iPhone features.

Based on common knowledge, Apple Intelligence requires an A17 Pro chip and a minimum RAM count of 8 GB to run on iPhones. This means there is a huge chance the new iPhone SE could share hardware specifications similar to those of the iPhone 15 Pro or the iPhone 16 which will adopt the A18 chipset.

In addition to the upgraded internal specifications, the iPhone SE 4 is rumored to sport a similar design to the iPhone 14. This will be a radical departure from the 2022 iPhone SE (review) that featured an outdated exterior. It could also switch from an LCD to a wider and better AMOLED display. With Apple Intelligence onboard, the iPhone SE 4 could be the most value-for-money entry in the budget iPhone lineup to date.

To make the iPhone SE 4 more affordable than standard iPhones, Apple could cut corners by fitting it with less powerful components such as a single rear camera and a lower water-resistance rating, among others.

However, it’s still unknown how much the 2025 iPhone SE might cost or if Apple Intelligence support and hardware improvements will make it more expensive than the current iPhone SE, which is available for $400.
