The Open Beta 6 for the OnePlus 5, as well as the Open Beta 4 for the 5T are now available, and both are bringing 8.1 Oreo, along with some other updates improving the gaming experience, making answering calls easier, and of course, an updated security patch plus general bug fixes and improvements.

Both will get:

  • Upgraded Android version to Oreo (8.1)
  • Updated to February's security patches
  • Bug fixes and improvements
  • Auto pick up gesture to answer a call by raising the phone
  • More clock styles added to display
  • Optimized gaming for immersive experience, plus power saving and pause for adaptive brightness
  • Support for migrating app data, to switch between devices easily (OnePlus Switch)

OnePlus 5T only:

The navigation gesture feature was initially introduced earlier in the year in another Open Beta for the 5T, and now improvements are being introduced for full-screen navigation gestures.

How to download the Open Beta

Keep in mind that these are not as stable as the standard OTA updates, so if you wish to take part in the Open Beta program, it is at your own risk. If you already receive OxygenOS beta builds, you don't have to do anything additional and you will be updated automatically to the latest versions. Below are the links with further details and instructions, including the download files for both Beta versions:

OxygenOS 5.0.2 introduced Face Unlock for the OnePlus 5

Earlier this year, innovative technology was made available to the 5T's predecessor via the Oreo Update: unlocking the phone via facial recognition. Have you used this feature yet?

Check your settings to see if the OTA update is available to you, and don't forget to make sure you have a stable Wi-Fi connection and enough battery life before you begin installing.

Let us know in the comments if you have downloaded the latest Open Beta.
