Problem clearing chat

I am in different groups in Whatsapp and I can select the option to clear chat and it gets done. However, there is one particular group, whenever I choose the option to clear chat, it takes so long and at the end, I get the message "storage space running out". I have to slecet manually the messages to delete them. How can I fix that issue?

Thanks for answering. I haven't thought of using any, but I changed phone and the problem got fixed. Thanks a lot again.
