Apple's $3,500 Vision Pro Headset Will Launch in More Countries
WWDC 2024 has not only seen the latest major software iterations for Apple's platforms like iOS 18, but it has also placed the Vision Pro under the spotlight by confirming the headset's availability in more countries. The MR/VR headset is touted to arrive in eight more markets from the end of June onward with pre-orders opening up a couple of weeks before shipment begins.
For starters, the Vision Pro was launched first in the USA this February, making this first expansion a major milestone for the company when it comes to marketing its ultra-premium wearable to more countries.
Vision Pro will arrive in more stores
The $3,500 headset will arrive in Japan, Singapore, and China (presumably Hong Kong is included) on June 28 while pre-orders will commence on June 13 at 6:00 PM PT.
A bigger push will take place on July 12, which will see the headset hit Australia, Canada, France, Germany, and UK shores. Pre-orders in these territories have been set for June 28 at 5:00 AM PT.
As for the price, Apple didn't share the actual MSRP, although it mentioned the Vision Pro will cost $3,500 for customers who will purchase the headset through online and retail channels.
This follows a similar process when the Vision Pro was launched in the States, it required customers to scan their face using an iPhone or iPad when ordering online. However, they can also obtain measurements alongside a demo they can book before visiting an Apple retail store.
visionOS 1.2
At the developers' conference, Apple also announced the availability of visionOS 1.2. This means the Vision Pro that launches in these countries will run on visionOS 1.2 out of the box.
visionOS 1.2 continues to build on visionOS 1.1, with the latter released three months ago. Essentially, the update includes enrolling the Persona feature on the handset, improved graphics for Personas, and improved Eyesight appearance. In addition, there are optimizations in terms of accessibility, connectivity, and pairing with a Mac, among others.
visionOS 2.0
This fall, Apple plans to distribute visionOS 2.0 to Vision Pro users while the developer beta is already available for testers to try. You can find comparable instructions on how to download and install the beta version in our iOS 18 beta guide.
As for the features in vision OS 2.0, it can transform 2D photos into spatial photos and supports new gestures to control the Home View and Control Center. The upcoming software version will also enable the user to rearrange apps freely in the home screen.
Another addition that leans toward the productivity segment is having a larger Mac Virtual Display. Apple described this feature offers the equivalent virtual screen estate of two 4K monitors. Furthermore, Vision Pro will support a physical mouse with the update.
Safari will receive a major enhancement in visionOS 2.0 as well. To be more specific, users can use Environment when streaming on Netflix, YouTube, or Amazon. In addition, Siri will be able to read and read webpage content aloud while you're multitasking.
Viewing content from the Vision Pro on the iPhone, iPad, or Mac will also be supported via AirPlay. Last but not least, an important accessibility feature that will be included is systemwide live captions including audio from apps.
