"Ok Google" Not Working on Android or iPhone? Here's the Fix

Google Assistant was supposed to help everyone exist in a futuristic utopia where we have our very own, permanent virtual assistants in our pockets. But in the real world, there are moments when even the best technology just does not work. In this article, we have listed various steps you can take if the "OK Google" or "Hey Google" voice command has stopped working on your phone. Scroll down to find out more!
Simple steps to identify the problem
Sometimes you do not need to perform long, drawn-out, complex troubleshooting steps to fix a nagging issue. The solution could be something that is very basic. And that is exactly what we want to do here. Before we try some of the more difficult steps, let us begin with a few basic ones to solve your 'OK Google not working' issue.
Make sure Google Assistant is turned on
As elementary as it may sound, you will be surprised to know just how many people may have simply turned the Google Assistant feature off and then wonder why it isn't working. In case you often hand over your phone to kids, they might, on some occasions, fiddle with the phone's settings and turn off Google Assistant (and the "OK Google" command by default) accidentally. Before you even start reading about major troubleshooting steps, make sure Google Assistant is enabled in the first place.
Here's how you do so.
- Launch the Google app on your phone.
- Tap on your profile picture.
- Select Settings.
- Choose Google Assistant.
- Tap on the General option.
- Make sure that Google Assistant is enabled.

As an additional step, you may also want to check the following:
- Follow steps 1 to 4 as mentioned above.
- Select Hey Google & Voice Match.
- Make sure the Hey Google option is enabled.
Make sure you're connected to the Internet
This may be stating the obvious, but in most cases, Google Assistant does need a Wi-Fi or mobile data connection to function, so make sure your smartphone is connected before you attempt a search. Also, and this is probably the oldest piece of advice in the book, it never hurts to perform a quick reboot where sometimes, magic really does happen!
Check if you're not alone
It's always good to know if the problem you're facing is affecting just you and nobody else. There have been occasions when people noticed that the problem is on Google's side rather than theirs. Check Twitter, Reddit, and Google's support forums to see if other users are complaining about 'OK Google' not working or that 'Google Voice' is not working as it should. You can also try searching for a solution using the term 'Google assistant not working.'
Check your language settings
One fix that has worked for many users when faced with the dreaded 'Ok Google not working' issue is to check the language settings on your phone. What if it turns out that the reason Google Assistant isn't responding to you is simply because you're speaking the wrong language to it?
Note that US English will be the default language for many users, but it's still worth checking in the Settings menu and making the necessary changes as required. To do this, perform the following steps:
- Launch the Google app on your phone.
- Tap on your profile picture.
- Select Settings.
- Choose Google Assistant.
- Tap on Languages.
- Select the first option to change the main language, or add a new language.
This same menu can show you dozens of language options, each one with a checkbox, allowing you to set primary and secondary languages if desired. Google will automatically detect which language you're speaking and automatically switch between them. If you're multilingual, be warned that voice recognition for languages other than English can sometimes be subpar.

Check your device's microphone
As a voice-based system, Google Assistant relies on uninterrupted access to your smartphone's microphone. When you launch the Google app, the microphone icon on the right-hand side of the search bar should appear in bold with fully-formed lines. If it has a dotted line, you may be experiencing a problem with your microphone.
This may be caused by debris in the small microphone hole often found next to the charging port—have a careful poke around with a safety pin or something similar to clear it, and you'll often solve the problem. If that doesn't work, check the microphone settings within the Google app.
Occasionally, apps running in the background generate audio that may interfere with the microphone's ability to pick up your voice, so check these too, and kill any apps that you think can be generating audio.

Turn off battery saver mode
Android smartphones feature a dedicated battery-saving mode that kills background processes to make sure you manage to eke as much juice from the battery as possible. An unintended consequence of this is having your Google Assistant (and the OK Google command) stop working because of this. It is a good idea to check whether the battery-saving mode on your phone is enabled before you blame anything else for OK Google not working.
On stock Android, you can check if the Battery saver option is enabled by taking these steps.
- Launch the Settings app.
- Scroll down and select Battery.
- Choose the Battery Saver option.
- Disable the Use Battery Saver option.
On other Android skins, the same option may appear under a different name, i.e. Adaptive Battery.

Update the Google app to the latest version
One possible fix to your OK Google problem is to ensure that your smartphone is running the latest version of the Google App. Here's how you can make sure you're on the newest version of the app.
- On your smartphone, launch the Google Play Store.
- Search for the Google app.
- On the Google app page, check whether there is an option to Update instead of Uninstall.
- Update the app by selecting Update to see whether the issue is resolved.
6. Retrain the "Ok Google" voice model
Sometimes, for reasons unknown, Google Assistant doesn't retain the commands you have given it. If all else fails, it might be time to retrain your digital companion. Here's how you can do so.
- Launch the Google app.
- Tap on your profile picture.
- Select Settings.
- Choose Hey Google & Voice Match.
- Select Voice Model.
- Tap on Retrain voice model and follow the on-screen instructions.
Now that you have reached the end of this article, do let us know if these steps helped you resolve the issue. Additionally, do let us know if we have missed any useful fixes.

OMG!!! THANK YOU!!!! I have tried and tried to get google assistant to work on my lock screen. No one told me to try updating the google app before now. And now it works......thank you so so much!!!!
I had all the right settings on my Samsung Galaxy A23 but it wouldn't work on my lock screen. Now it does, thank you!
Our pleasure! The assistant is a bit irritating, right?!
"ok google" does not engage the assistant. when the assistant is engaged through the microphone emblem the microphone works fine and OK Google in settings is on.
What's going on here?
I tried everything but the only thing that fixed it was configuring Android Auto to Assistant/Voice Match. It seems that when this feature is turned off or bugged in Android Auto, the same feature for general use on the device is either turned off or faulty.
In my case, Assistant was associated with the wrong gmail account:
1. Long press on Assistant & select Settings
2. Change the account from the wrong one to the right one.
Only way I got working was connecting to a pc, then turn off, hold power and volume up. Clear Cache and restarted, wait a few minutes and worked ever since, has been months since worked
Thanks for the suggestions. Couldn't get "hey google" to work as before. Turned off battery saving mode and it solved my problem. My only concern is it must have changed during an update, because it used to work with battery saving mode on.
Thank you for the help. I just needed to update.
informative information
All I had to do was uninstall Google from the app store, then you will see that there are updates available. Don't install the updates and it will work. You will have to enable Google voice again from within the Google settings
These are obvious solutions to the most basic problems. What if it beeps and only listens but the user interface is not showing up? Have you guys ever encountered that?
My phone just started doing this too! About an hour ago. Google answers but no interface showing.
I had the same problem on an Galaxy S21+. The "Hey Google" would respond by voice but the Assistant interface would not pop up. Fixed it by going to the Play Store, searching for the Google app, unchecking the auto update option on the top right corner three dot menu and clicking Uninstall. This does not remove the Google app but only uninstalls the latest update which causes the problem. Go back to the Voice Match setting and turn it on...and now the Assistant interface pops up as it should.
Just started happening to me as well. Voice trigger only boots up the assistant but no interface. Complies with commands, but only in the background - if I say for instance "hey Google, discord" the app pops up. The assistant interface only comes up if I long press the home button, no voice activation at all. Faulty update.
Please give the right solution for me ?
My device is Redmi Note 9 Pro, and I just updated it to Android 11. Before I experienced Android 11, Google Assistant would always pop up after I gave my voice command, but righy after I updated it to Android 11, it only shows "beep" sound without popping up the navigation box. How to fix it? ?
The exact problem I was looking for yet this guy explains obvious steps like we're just born yesterday
Ronald Larsen thank you for the only response that has actually worked! I saw my last update was from about 5 days ago and had a feeling that was the issue, but I like to give a big name app like Google the benefit of the doubt. After checking/trying every other suggestion, uninstalling that last update did the trick. My husband had the same issue on his phone (newer model than mine) but it fixed itself within 2-3 days, so it really confused us why mine was still messed up. Thanks again!
Android 11 - Brand New POCO F3
No way "Hey Google" work automatically... the magical 4 dots do not appear...
unless I push the "Home" circle and activate it manually.
I checked all the article suggestions, plus some more detailed options,
but found nothing strange !
The "specific" Google App microphone permission is "Always ON", tough :-(
Any reasons for that??
My device is Redmi Note 9 Pro. I just updated it to Android 11, and the Google Assistant did not pop up after I used my voice command ?
I had to retrain the voice model (step 6) - many thanks for your help
Oh look an instruction guide that basically says "We don't want to actually have to figure out what is wrong with our own software, so lets blame everyone elses...."
I had this problem before and managed to get it working using the instructions suggested by Ronald Larsen. I have today lost the ability to use this with Android Auto again. When I initially say 'OK Google' I get the 4 dots as usual and when I say Text ____ that message comes up on the screen along with the 4 dots apparently working. I don't hear anything further and the dots just disappear. If I try saying 'OK Google' again there is no response. I am getting really annoyed by this. Luckily I have handsfree in my car anyway so I can just go back to that but voice commands are so much easier. Any further help would be appreciated.
@ Ronald Larsen from 2018 comment. Your method still tried and true. Worked perfectly. I've done everything. Now Google is baked in system (androids) cannot be deleted nor can Bixby. So when others say disable Bixby you really can't. I deleted Google assistant. Deleted voice but once I did that the toggle for hey google won't stay on I couldn't even get it to move. Also when I tried to retrain my voice, just got a blue circle for a few seconds than a error message saying cannot connect try again or dismiss. I messed with all the settings, force stopped the apps ( Google, Chrome and assistant) cleared cache and data for all 3 nothing.
I compared my settings to my son's all the same. Yet his goggle assistant works just as it did prior to the new April 2021 update. My kids have the same phone as me. My daughter's did the same as mine. Assistant only works from home screen holding down the home button. At first got 4 or 5 colorful Google lines had to tap those to get the mic going than it'd work. That stopped. I thought it was my android auto. Tried to mess with those settings. So don't despair my fellow frustrated Google assistant lovers. I posted this on the Google store assistant app review because I've left numerous feedback comments in help sections in my Google home page with no help back or emails. My only extra bit of advice on top of Ronald's is make sure you disable the auto updates as I stated in my review I left. You have limited characters so I tried to be brief. In the search for those that aren't that tech savvy or newer to technology, open the Google play store in search bar type in Google click on it, do not open it or uninstall it. If you already uninstalled the updates do not clicked on install updates. On the upper right corner there are 3 dots click those and uncheck auto update. Do this for Google Chrome and assistant as well. Until Google figures out the bugs I'm leaving it as is.
So here's my review I left on Google play for Google Assistant with Ronald's instructions somewhat updated. I have the Samsung Galaxy s21+. FYI, all Google kept relaying to the same complaints were go to the Google app and leave feedback in the community and someone will get back to you. Guess what?? NO responses! I'm hoping this helps atleast one person. I've wasted hours. Please pass it along if it helps!!
I FIXED IT MYSELF. ANDROID USERS GO TO SETTINGS/APPS/select GOOGLE/UPPER RIGHT CORNER THERE'S 3 DOTS, select uninstall updates. Went into assistant app on home screen tapped mic said train voice followed directions. Everything back to pre UPDATE settings. MAKE SURE IN PLAY STORE & SEARCH FOR GOOGLE, CHROME & ASST APPS/UPPER RIGHT DESELECT AUTO UPDATES FOR THE FUTURE UNTIL THEY DEBUG THIS. I'M so happy they've still not responded to any feedback left on numerous occasions & THEY GET PAID!
I have a Samsung note 8 and cannot get the voice match to toggle on.. I keep getting a "trouble connecting" message.. I was told to update my android system webserver but it's disabled with no enable option.. I have no idea how it was disabled?
Oh my goodness thank you Doug!!!! the battery saver was my problem too!!!! Once I turned it off after reading your info it worked beautifully. Two months of trying everything .....google frustration!!! . Unbelievable!!!!
Wow this is useful one.... Thanks yar
Google mic not working app
On my device "Battery Saver" mode was ON. When I turned it off, it worked again.
It's because of incompetent development and bug fix teams at Google that this whole thing started in the first place. When I uninstall updates, Google Assistant works great, but the moment I shift to the latest version, it won't even recognize my voice input in the Voice Match section even though Microphone has been enabled on the app. Pointless programmers, no one in the Google Dev team for GA even tested to see if it wasn't working any more before pushing their shitty update into the live version.
Same here. I've exhausted all other 'fixes' but didn't uninstall updates -- don't know how -- and I"ve got zilch.
Why use the effort to turn it off when you just have to not say "OK GOOGLE"
So I realized my problem, I had to access settings from the Google app, after which I went to Google Assistant, Tap the Assistant tab and then Languages (for speaking to your Assistant) and ensure that you don't just see "English". If so, tap it and select a specific one (US, UK etc.). That should do the trick. Lemme know if it works for you too!
For anyone having issues with Google Assistant on AA, make sure you have the latest version of AA. Unpair the vehicle its connected to. Once that's done turn BT ON PHONE ONLY. MAKE SURE YOUR CARS HEAD IS ON BUT DON'T CONNECT TO THE CARS USB . wait for the BT LOGO to show up on the vehicles HU. Then connect the USB to the phone & the port in the car. I lost Assistant after an update, but unpairing & resetting the connection now brings up Assistant and voice activation in my car. This may work for some & may not work for others. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S10 Note 5G in a 5G connected area .
In my Samsung Galaxy Note 5 'While driving' option is in grey color & cannot enable it. How to fix it?
Ok Google doesn't work because I turned it off. And it pleases me this way.
This article assumes that the problem is a user problem, doesn't go beyond obvious, simple fixes. Google Assistant issues are widely documented, and many variables matters, such as Android version, handset (Pixel settings are unique to Android phones) yet this article, by not going deeper, will end up wasting the time of 95% of readers.
google voice still not working with android auto any answers
Wow, talk about a useless waste of space. Your article basically assumes the reader has never encountered a smart phone before.
I agree to that
some authors here think people are brainless
Thanks for the great article, but I'd like to say that, contrary to what you say, Google Assistant does have some features that work when not connected to the internet. I don't know them all but one is the ability to make phone calls. I've used this for a long time when driving but, suddenly, it stopped working, and there is little help on the internet. After much searching, I cleared both storage and cache in the Google app. It didn't help but I mention it in case it's necessary in conjunction with the next steps that did help. I changed the language in the phone's settings to English - US. I then rebooted. When I tried to make a phone call offline, it said that internet was required, so I connected to the internet and made a call. I then turned off the internet and tried to make an off-line call. It again said I needed to be on the internet. I ignored that and tried a second time to make an offline call, and it worked. I can't explain why it was such a carry-on, but I'm now happy that it works, although I'm a bit miffed that I had to change my preferred language from English - UK to English - US. English - UK has worked fine for almost two years, and I am English, so I don't understand why it doesn't work now. However, I'm very relieved to be able to make off-line calls through Google Assistant again. Hope this helps someone.
Interesting. I tried everything I could think of and following your change I added English UK and removed English US. I live in the US but I figured since the Brits have a little better revision on English for some reason I'd just give it a whirl. As soon as I made the change I could go turn on voice match and everything was back to normal. Prior to this when I tried to retrain voice match it'd just set and spin. To verify that it was this change that fixed my issue I went back and added English US and removed English UK and I no longer had google assistant. Simple enough to add English UK back in. Maybe Google knows UK English is better? Thanks so much to vivsim for finding the solution even though we have to use each others version of English it worked.
how did you add/delete the languages?? I can only select.
Been trying for the past 30 min on one plus 7 pro with no luck. Tried all listed, removed notification apps. Rebooted several times. Nothing.........?
I used it a lot before all this, sucks not to have it.
Uninstalling the Google app worked for me.
how did you uninstall the app? I get only 'Force Stop' or Disable. ????
My LG android was in Battery Saver Mode. Battery went low, low, low, and phone automatically went to saver mode. Had to find the BSM settings and change it back. All works now.
Never had any issues with OK Google, maybe it depend on the phone or Internet connection?
Hello, i found the solution go to : your google app Settings => voice => change the region to some countries that is not banded like USA UK etc...
and also use it same on your device Settings => search and type "region" and change it
It works, sort of, but I do not really like to use it
Battery saver mode must be OFF. Also assistant was connected to Waze app, so I went to Waze settings/ Google assistant, and trained voice profile in there too. Now it works.
thank you so much, had no idea about battery saver.
Language does not have to be American English, mine is set to British English & started working again when I switched back on a few permissions that I had switched off.
My google assistant was working perfectly until today... First of all, I got a google home today and was setting it up. In the meantime, my phone went through a reboot and update. So I had to wait to set up my google home till my phone restarted. Then while setting up my Google Home, My son decided to be a smart a** and said "ok google" and it responded to him! It was supposed to respond only to my voice. I muted the microphone on my Home, and asked my son to say it again. He did, and my phone responded to him. He then asked it what his name was and it gave my name. So i started researching. I tried to retrain the voice recognition after deleting the voice models, it kept telling me it already recognized my voice and would not allow me to retrain it. I then cleared google cache and other settings and tried to retrain it. Well, this time, it would not respond at all to anyone saying "ok google" so now, i am waiting for my phone to charge enough to set it back to factory settings.
I am having the same issues. Google Assistant will not work when I say "Ok Google". It started about a month ago. I have been on the phone with Samsung and Google and both have passed the buck, and neither have solved the issue. When I try to retrain the voice recognition it tells me I am already recognized and that I am all set and it will not let me retrain. Will be back to taking with Samsung in a few minutes in another of several attempts to get this resolved.... very frustrating !!! Anyone have any suggestions?
Microphone for me. Just used the voice recorder and that kicked it into life. Retrained voice and bingo
I deleted and reinstalled the app! It worked...
Go to the Play Store and update the Google app. It actually worked
SOLVED FOR ME ANYWAY
google assistant voice is not working properly on may phones ... "access with voice match" being greyed out, then when you try to change that and do a new voice it won't let you, initially saying unable to access microphone, but later attempts not saying that and just not accepting your voice ... I lost 20 hours of my life trying to find the solution online and trying heaps of supposed solutions .... this is the only thing that worked for me, did it by semi-logical-accident.
The solution was to turn OFF the microphone permission for the main GOOGLE app AND LEAVE IT OFF!!! ... Then when I went to do my next voice recognition, it popped something up that asked me to ALLOW access to the Microphone, which I did and it worked :)
This....This worked when all other solutions did not. Thank you for posting.
Yes! Thank you. This was the ONLY thing that worked. I guess Google just wants to ask for it.
If your "Ok Google is not working" then follow this procedure. 10000% working guarentee. For samsung S9+ and other devices.
Go to setting -> search for " device assistance app" -> click on the search result and select the google -> now go back to main setting page and search for voice match in google setting -> select access with voice match -> Bang -> its start working. 100% working.
This is not getting it done. Did not fix problem...
OnePlus6 user here and Ronald Larsen's Top/Favourite comment on this post...it worked for me very smoothly! I just didn't re-update the Google app yet. I'll update once I do. Even my Google voice assistant stopped responding to "ok/hey Google" outside the voice assistant app, randomly one day. I'm thinking it was because of the Android Pie update maybe, but anyway, Google app update rollback to factory version worked!
My issue started after my phone (LG v20) updated to Android oreo. The commands "Hey Google" and "Ok Google" are detected by my device then the search pop-up will come up but the voice recording chime doesn't come up. So even if I speak after the two commands and I see the four colored dots at the bottom move as I speak, my inquiry does not get through. Still have to press the mic icon to get my voice commands and questions to work. ??♂️
If "Battery Saver" is on, then Google Assistant will not be monitoring for your voice command. Turn off Battery Saver, then your voice of OK Google will be responded.
I had the same problem....Ok Google works always, but today no! After retraining and trying to play with the Voice Settings, it turned out that it just doesn't work WHEN BATTERY SAVER IS ON. Switch it off and bingo it works again.
This fixed it for me, thank you so much!
Thank you!!! This worked for me.
Wow, so obvious and I still couldn't figure it out on my own. Thanks so much man, worked like a charm!
Thanks for helping tips
I found out my LG phone won't allow the "OK Google" to work when I am in battery saving mode. Turned off battery saving mode and all is now well.
This is a feature I intentionally disable.
How fix my issue in samsung s8..
My ' hey Google' is not working, Nokia 7 plus. It's on Android p and I've tried retaining voice. The recorder just keeps searching for voice command. However, in the normal mode when I open Google assistant through screen two, the recorder works fine for other commands. Please help.
I travel a lot use my "Hey Google". The latest software update I lost Google assistant. I have a Samsung Galaxy 9+. I tried everything mentioned and no luck. When I am in the voice section, "retrain voice" is grayed out. I also can not select " I hold down the home key and google comes up, but i have to tap the microphone icon and then google assistant works. It should be hands free.
"I just experienced this problem but fixed it in a way I don't understand. Farther down that same settings page that has the toggle for "Access with Voice Match", I had to toggle on "Use Screen Context." Worked for me after that.
Yep. Took me a month to figure this out, even with your comment... Moderately pissed off.
I had to:
1. Toggle 'Use Screen Context' off (since it was on already)
2. Toggle 'Google Assistant' off
3. Go back to the previous page
4. Re-enter the phone's voice settings
5. Toggle 'Use Screen Context' on again
6. Toggle 'Google Assistant' on again
7. Am now able to turn on 'Access with Voice Match'
Not 100% sure if I did everything in that order, or if they're all vital to making it work, but those are all the things I did to fix it (crucially the going out and back into it thing). Happy Googling, friends." from another thread these 2 cracked it
I've tried every suggestion... This actually worked. I didn't know what you meant at times but I went back undoing in order you suggested.. So far so so good.. one phone down, three tablets an Amazon fire, and another phone to go... Good times....?
I have a Huawei mate 10 pro and ok goole works as long as i don't clear the phones memory. If a restart the phone it starts working again. I should add I'm swedish, but google assistant answers happily in swedish when it works.
Mine was also not working due to the battery saving mode!
Thanks man. I’ve been struggling for over a month with this, but that’s the answer. Cheers!
Well, I don't know what's going on with mine. When I tap the microphone to start talking, I only can get a few words done, Either it shuts off and I have to start it again or, it will stay on and I can see the word listening, as I'm talking nothing happens. Very frustrating.
Many great suggestions here but the one I had on a Pixel 2 wasn't covered. I tried all listed comments. Google Assistant was working as was voice recognition if I first started Assistant either by clicking the app or squeezing the phone but Assistant wouldn't start hands free. Google pushed "battery saver" with the "Pie" update & forced battery saver on. Turns out battery saver blocks hands-free activation of Assistant, so if you want to activate Assistant by saying "OK Google" or "Hey Google", turn off battery saver.
Wallllyyyyy...that was it.....wish the original post suggested that would have saved me some time. No even sure why bat saver was on.
Bingo! Turned of Battery Saver and now voice recognition works as it should on my LGG6 phone. Thanks!
After a few days my voice recognition would simply not respond. I went to the app sttings and allowed it to access storage and it's been working ever since.
Just download Google assistant from play store along with the Google app.
It worked for me
I have an lG G5 and it won't let me do this fix. Every time I try it redirects me to google. Can you tell me how to fix?
Babes, what worked for me is logging in and out of my Google accounts via the assistant settings. Just switched it up and switched back and Shaazam! Also, might I add, this blog is really painfully slow on mobile, specially when u have to deal with the comments section. Ciao.
I just spent a while troubleshooting this issue and realized the phone was in battery saver mode. Please note that OK Google voice detection does not work when battery saver is enabled!
The real answer is always in the comments.
Thank you so much! This fixed it for me!
OH MY GOD THANK YOU! I've been looking for about an hour and this is my issue. I was going crazy in my car over this. I use battery saver a lot. When you charge the phone battery saver turns off. But I believe it is new in Android v9 that when you unplug again it goes back into battery saver mode. So my phone is basically always in battery saver mode when unplugged. This problem was always there but I never noticed it until the android update.
Awesome side note: using google assistant on a Pixel 2 to try to fix the problem, it's not smart enough to tell me to to turn off battery saver. The same is true for this article and any other forum I found.
Thank you so much! This article should have started with your comment Stephan Piotrowski! Hours wasted and you resolved it in a minute.
D'oh!
Have read and tried a gazillion "fixes" without success until stumbling on to your comment- Eureka! Thanks a "gazillion"!
Perfect! After trying other fixes that didn't fix anything, I tried your method. It took less than a minute and everything is back to normal. Thanks for posting.
It worked like a charm but when I say "ok google" when phone is locked it says "cant reach Google at the moment". Is there a fix for that?
Retraining Google Voice work, thanks so much
I have a Samsung s8 with EE. I have been using Google assistant with my Motorola Bluetooth headset. All I have to do is press the button on the headset and say 'call home and it will call my home but now it will only work if the phone screen is unlocked. Unless I enter my unlock code manually all I get is 'sorry I am unable to help with that but I'm learning all the time'. Have disabled s voice son will see how I get on. Anyone else with this issue??
...
I just purchased an LG G7 & found a fix for the "OK Google" problem. It works when I turn off "Battery Saver"! Good luck...
THANK YOU!!! I've been having trouble with my Pixel. This worked perfectly.
Thank you very much, my LG V20 was working fine until the Oreo update and then Ok Google didn't work. I did what you said and disabled the battery saver function and now ok google works.
I too have the LG V20 and have always used the battery saver function. So glad I found this thread and the comment by R Thread
Oh wow, is Google kidding here? I knew battery saver blocked google assistant but the new battery saver lost the overt orange overlay to communicate that it's enabled and there is no notification to tell me google assistant is unavailable in that mode. This has been a pain for weeks but I'm glad you posted this. Thanks for the help.
Thank you a million. Turning "Battery Saver" off "saved" my LG G6. It worked for me and "OK Google" responded.
That's it! Thank you! I have tried everything else I could think of, so was going crazy. Thanks again!
Android 9 (Pie) updated killed "OK Google" ability. Not the first time one of their updates on their phone (Google Pixel) has done this. I've done all the usual fixes. Nada. Mic is working fine if I manually select Google app and talk to my mic. Always something.
Exactly the same issue I have. I have tried everything. Nothing works.
Updated to Pie and now assistant doesnt hear my voice. Embarrassing when standing around saying Hey Google over and over and nothing happens. The assistant was dumb as heck anyway so now I just use my phone to make calls and text and use my laptop for any web searching. Reliability on Droid is horrible. Works one month nothing works the next. It's not a smart phone
After one of my updates on my s7 edge, my 'ok google' was no longer active. I tried many times set up my voice, with no success ?!
After trying the 1st part of this article I was able to fix it ???! Thank you Android Pit
Can't toggle it on.
My "OK Google" function disappeared over the weekend. The first fix on here has worked for me and OK Google & Google Assistant are now restored ?
It did tell me to update Google first but I didn't bother, so this might be why some people have found 'Voice' or 'retrain voice' is greyed out, possibly to do with the update??
My ok Google has been working great - it did ask me to re check policy update then it recognised that my voice was trained.
Peace ?
I had similar issue on s4, i went to playstore and updated google app and installed and configured google assistant..It now works on Samsung S4
Yeah I had the same problem but I went to default apps and clicked on voice assistance and it said Google I clicked on that changed it to something else and changed it back to Google and starting working fine.
Thanks, I tried all the above but your step of default apps was needed to fix mine. I selected None under default apps and the went back to Google and finally OK, Google and Hey, Google work again!
That's great! Happy to be of assistance.
I lost my availability to use hands free okay google yesterday. The area to turn it on or retrain the voice is grayed out and I can not fix it. I even reinstalled the Android on the phone and it still did not work. I noticed other people is having the same problem. How can the problem be fixed?
It now works. Maybe google fixed the problem.
Looking at the number of comments, it appears Google have broken Google Assistant as of the 5 August! I got asked to retrain my voice, and now it doesn't respond, and retrain voice and delete voice are greyed out! Even uninstalling updates and updating Google to force voice training doesn't fix it!
Same here, lost "OK Google" detection today. I really hope this is not related to Android P announcement from today, because I even reinstall system but still not making any difference
My retrain voice settings are grey and I can't use the hey/ok Google voice commands
Ok google, get off your ass and fix it!
Its turned on but all the settings are greyed out! I have to touch mic to get google to wake up! I reset twice and still... Samsung K20
I thought it only my having this problem, I even factory reset my phone but still nothing. Is there any way to fix this?
Google Assistant does not work at! Unable to utilize 'Ok Google" or 'Hey Google". All necessary permissions are granted and yet when I go into "Voice Match" settings they are turned off, and do not allow me to change. Help! I use the assistant, well did... All the time to wake my phone or initiate a search.
Same exact problem
My Google assistant has suddenly stopped working using the OK Google command. When I go into settings the Access with Voice Match option is disabled. I've made sure Google has microphone permissions, I've disabled and enabled the assistant etc etc. Nothing seems to work. I've followed all the advice here forums.androidcentral.com/ask-question/887183-why-cant-i-turn-access-voice-match.html but still no luck. Any ideas?
I am facing the exactly same issue
Since yesterday evening I am also facing same issue no method seems to correct it.
I'm facing exactly the same problem. Sometimes when I say OK Google the voice model training starts, but afterwards, nothing happens when saying the magic words, until a few minutes past, when training starts over and over. Have they disabled something on purpose? Is the assistant on summer holidays? ;)
Me too.
Totally agree with your comment I think Google needs to fix this... is obviously not an Android problem with all all these types of phones with the same problem. Come on Google pull
your finger out
Watch out for theming apps that can change the google app’s look, especially some substratum ones. I reverted changes I made to the appearance of the app, and, viola! Voice worked correctly again. I was going to revert back to a older google app(I use the beta version), but remembered a warning about some themes can mess with the system, and went there first. Now, I have to delete the older version I downloaded, as it’s a large file(also the mic test app I installed).
Another solution. I had this issue and it turned out that another app had taken over as my default device assistance app, I changed it back in default apps and all is well.
Which app?
I think it was Samsung notes but you don't go into the app list to change it, there is a settings page for default apps, just search the settings search bar for 'device assistance' and it should take you there. You want the first option "default apps -select what app .. when you hold down the home key"
It should be set to Google.
For the last two weeks Ok Google has not been working correctly on my S8+, it will search the web for things, but will not make phone calls through my contacts or look up contacts either. It will also no longer send emails or messages to contacts. Incredibly frustrating as it is a great feature to have while driving. I've tried all the fixes with zero luck.
Not working on 7 either
My Ok Google is mostly alright, except the more recent updates have made it a little less responsive to a few root apps. Not all, just certain ones. Even with no connection, I could get them to open when I said Ok Google, now I get a error. A connection, I will get a reference to it, instead of opening. I wonder if new security features are changing features, I may not update, this, or gplay services if it’s going to break things.
My "Ok Google" is not unlocking my phone like it used to. Every time I say the magic phrase the PIN input pops up. Argh.. I've already verified Trusted Agents and Smart Lock is enabled. I think one of the more recent security "updates" may have broke something. They've now fixed the slow login with the July 5th update, but now broke another. (Google Pixel 2)
Must be. I have been getting pages opening randomly recently.
It is not working for you because it is to busy sending everything it hears to Google. It is listening just not the way you want. I will never have one of these spy devices in my house.

Put your foil hat back on. And either answer the question or STFU. Paranoid moron.
OK, OK, OK, Okay: Google, sometimes I don't think you're really listening to me and I'm talking to the wall.
My ok google used to work but for some reason it has stopped working for me and does not activate when i say ok google.
die ok google widget does not display say ok google.
System and Google language set to US English.
Unlock with voice enabled.
Voice match set
HTC U11+
Android 8.0.0
HTC Sense Companion
yesterday my Google Assistant quit working. it does record my query or command but it doesn't do anything with it. I followed all these troubleshooting steps including a reboot but nothing changed.
Eventually I found why "Say Ok Google" doesn't work on my Nexus 6 :-(
and open: "Use Voice Match ("Ok Google")"
under "Learn about locking options"
you will read:
"When you say "Ok Google" from a secure lock screen and we're able to recognise your voice, you can ask Google to do things for you or visit sites, without manually unlocking your device.
Learn how to turn on "Ok Google".
Note: Voice Match isn't available for Nexus 6 devices."
So, why just only our Nexus 6 has been punished!?
One thing that could be added to simple fixes is "restart your phone". That's what worked for me.
Or your reading the whole post.
Bingo, thanks for posting! Restarting phone worked for me after checking settings many times.
Failed
"Ok google detection" "unlock with voice match" "voice match" I have those tree always unvailable because of wrong language, and I have everything in english US, so I guess that there is some bug.
Here's new one....
I m using redme 3s prime with android 6.0.1 and all apps totally upgraded with 4g data network but when I go for voice match it says check your connection..can u help.... Thanks....
My assistant wasn't recognising my voice very reliably so I retrained it and now it won't work at all although it gets through the retrain procedure successfully.
For me the option to turn Ok google detectioin anywhere always stays off? Can anyone help?
The problem is: I click on "Ok Google" detection, turn on "From any screen" feature, a screen pops up, I click next, I say Ok Google 3 times, it successfully detects my voice, but I don't get the option to click next, it's just stuck there and I can only click on "Finish Later" which takes me back and "From any screen" feature is turned off! How can I fix this?
After repeating "ok goggle" three times it just stays on that screen. I know it can hear my voice because I see a check mark next to the ok goggle when I say it but it just stays on that screen. Am I supposed to do something else? Please help
I had the exact same problem this morning, I don't know what happened to it, I only get the option of Finish later
Uhhh, wow . . . I spent hours, off and on, trying to get my voice recognition to work to open "Hey, Google." I got to the end and the "simple fixes." I restarted my phone and joila . . . They should put that first for those of that can only afford the cheap seats, lol. Moto E4 . . . android
Doesn't work on Huawei Mate 2, keeps saying device is locked. "OK, Google" worked at one time. I've given up using 90% of the junk on these phones that doesn't work properly. More trouble than it's worth. Though something started draining my battery. Looks like might be Google Assistant.
Android Auto was great...until I did the ATT marshmallow update today. Now search function is useless.
It worked on my LG V30 simply by disabling the energy saving mode
Same for me!!
Thanks Miguel Crespo... Energy Saving Mode the Problem.
Siri is WAY better, cannot wake up phone? Did everything, still doesn't work. What now?
"Ok Google Isn't Working"
You forgot the comma after "Ok".
While you're correct from a grammatical perspective, as you can see in the screenshots above, Google doesn't use the direct address comma in their style. That is the reason why we haven't used it here.
Uhhh, they forgot the, "Okay (hey), (<~) comma, too! ;)
LOL, check for "debris". Man, the stories I could tell of some of the crap I've found inside phones, printers, computers, photocopiers, fax machines over the years. Everything from a McD's french fry inside a 9,000 dollar copy machine, to a dead mouse, squeezed into the drum & drum cleaning blade of a wide format 80,000 dollar Kip printer. I know I get people saying "I can't charge my phone" and using magnification, it looks like a colony of micro-organisms living inside the charge port.
Ok Google, write a comment in my place, because I do not want to type!
Ok Google, and now please translate in Romanian!
OK Sorin, scrie te rog un comentariu în locul meu, pentru că eu nu am chef să tastez !
OK Sorin, now can I post the "Post Comment" command?
Ok Google, yes, please! Thank you.
P.S. My name is Sorin and that's why Google's assistant talked to me saying "Ok, Sorin" !!!
disabling S Voice worked for me on an S7 Edge
I'm using Huawei mate 10 pro and There is one more issue with '' okay Google '' that you haven't noticed Mr. Matt Pearson. My problem is that '' okay Google '' was working very well and suddenly just '' okay Google detection''stopped and I can't start it again.. Just I'm not able to turn it on.. I think that may happened when I set my voice for that 'okay Emy' ' voice wake up which is useless.. Or maybe the reason is something else? Is there somebody who can help me to fix this?
I am having the same problem
Uninstall (uninstall updates) Google app from Settings -> Apps -> Google -> ... (tap the three dots on top right) -> Uninstall updates. Now setup Google voice. Once successful, you can update Google app back to the latest version.
This fixed the issue for me Sony Performance Android 8.0
Perfect, thanks!!
Thank you so much..works for my Huawei Mate 10 Pro
Thank you! This worked for my Huawei Honor 7x!
worked like a charm.. thank you. i moved from iphone to android with a galaxy 9.
if i didnt like fiddling with phones i would dump the android. its full of bugs and things work about half time. I really DO know why Apple says...for apple phones...IT JUST WORKS....cause it does.
Awesome thank you! I just got a new Moto Z Play today, and was pulling my hair out! This worked.
Uninstalling the Google updates worked! This was driving me nuts. And I did not want to have to do a factory reset. I had almost given up hope until I ran across your post. Thank you!
Thank you! Worked on my VS995 (LG V20) running a custom rom!!
Awesome, thanks Ronald, finally I can speak to my phone again (Huawei Mate 10 Pro). I'll see if updating to latest version kills it again :-)
I want to Thank you SO very much. I just got a new LG Q7+ and have been unable to get the google assistant to work since day 1, in mid Feb 2019, I have looked everywhere for a solution. Even ran through EVERY suggestion on this page today and then saw your post! This was exactly what got it to work for me!!! I cannot thank you enough for putting this out there, nobody else had a solution and I was about to return my new phone as defective. Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!!
It worked, when nothing else did! Thanks so much!
And then when you do the update "back to the latest version" it doesn't work anymore....
I have excellent connections but ok google detection keeps saying I have poor connection disabling me from retraining my voice.
I've even did a hard reset and it worked for rwo minutes and then went back to not responding.
ME too
these all bullshit don't work mentioned above i too had the same problem in my OnePlus 5t after my beta update 3... coming to the problem the solution is go to apps and click on "uninstall updates" and clear everything for Google applications there are 2 applications then restart your phone and open playstore and update the apps then retraining will work...??
This worked for me, thanks!!
Hi,
I am having the same problem when I tried to retrain google, it is not recognising my voice anymore. I tried several ways , turned off the device but even then google is not recognising my voice.
Turned it off turned it back on and tadaa!!
I came across this issue today on my Note8 - turns out the issue was Power Saving Mode! Because it restricts background apps I'm assuming it was disabling the "OK Google" detection to save power. Turned it off and the detection worked immediately.
OMG! That is exactly what was wrong with mine! Thank you
Thanks bro that fixed it.
My Android's Google Assistant no longer does anything, either when I tap the microphone icon or when I say "Ok, Google." All that happens in either case is that the colored spinning icon, that's supposed to indicate that the app is working on something, just spins. Forever, until I cancel out of it. I am unable to retrain the voice recognition because, again, when I tap on that option under the Settings, all I get is a forever-spinning color wheel icon. I've already tried soft resetting the phone and reloading the app. Any ideas? Thanks.
I have a problem in which the phone detects a voice command when I say nothing. It's really getting to my nerves because I can be alone, hearing music with the headsets on and suddednyl the music stops to get the message of "Please go to google configuration to..."
The thing is... The headsets do not have a microphone. Does anyone know how to flat out deactivate that? I have and HTC 626
So yeah Google no longer get any input from my Mic. Everything else does but for some reason goggle doesn't. Google acts like everything is ok but when I start it up to listen it comes up but wont recive anything through the mic. Guess I may have to go and use S Voice.
I read nearly all of the suggestions...finally found one that worked for me on S7 Edge Nougat. Went to Google Play store, search for Google...uninstall...stay on that screen...wait until it show "Update" on the left and "Open" on the right...Do an Update and then start the app. You have to repeat a lot of the steps you've done before but now "Ok Google" works every time from any screen, locked or open.
This worked for me... Thank you!!
This solved my problem!! thank you so much. What a relief.
Thank you so much!
Thanks uninstall and update worked for me too thanks again ,you are a star mate.
Ok..tried everything..where it says train voice. .I cannot even access it..it's not lit up..I can push it all day..also..people cannot hear me when on speaker phone..they come across perfectly..I sound garbled
Try disabling any application that uses the microphone including Google and the Samsung voice apps. if that doesn't work you may have a bad microphone.
My solution was to uninstall/reinstall the program, then it worked fine.
In accessibility I changed from Samsung TTS to Google TTS and now it works fine, even when screen is off.
This is and has been an none issue way before the release of the pixel. Now we are stuck with 700 dollars of phone that doesn't do what it suppose to do. I feel like they have done it to us again. I'm going back to my Nexus at least it works. These pixels have so many issues. Both software and hardware. I have the Google pixel and I want my dam money back.
Fix solution... Very simple turn off all accessiblity .some app may try to turn off mic by help of accessibility might be kingroot app do this and then retrain Google voice its definatily work. After that u'll be able to use Google now in all window ?
It definitely did not work
I've tried all of this and more. Even removing all updates won't work. Factory reset didn't work. No matter what I do I can not get "ok google" to activate from my home screen or anywhere else. Only when I hold the home button. I just don't know what to do anymore. I've tried everything.
Just mail me and definitely we will find a solution

My suggestion is to FORGET ABOUT OK GOOGLE because it is NOT Okay!
It is the ultimate tracker - it's worse than having an ankle bracelet. And this for-profit company is turning much of the population into zombies that are crying to wear the ankle bracelet empowering Google with knowing more about you than you do.
LOL :-) Paranoia at it's best!
I am unable to even you the voice option. I can't push the retrain voice button or the from any screen. It doesn't recognise my voice until I press the mic button? Any ideas. I have been Google hunting for nearly 6 months.
I completely powered down (the phone, not me) and when I powered back on little Miss OK Google was back! When in doubt, reboot!
Fix solution... Very simple turn off all accessiblity .some app try to off mic by help of accessibility might be kingoroot app do this and then retrain Google voice its definatily work. After that u able to use Google now in all window
Thanks bro?
Thank you so much
Thanks to you it become "okay"
Ok my google will not load a lot of wep sites I have no idea what is happening it just say the it can't find the server but it worked just 2 minutes ago what is happening
My OK Google just stopped listening about a week ago. The microphone is fine. I went though the 20 suggested on-line fixes without any luck and even called my cell phone support. No Joy. I finally went to the ultimate support source ... my young employees. They went into the Google application and remove all updates (you can't uninstall it). I then restarted the phone and of course Google would not work at at. I then updated the Google app and presto! It works again. Simple is good.
This worked for me too, thanks -- "uninstall" Google app and then update again.
Thanks for your tip! It worked perfectly this morning. Last night I called Verizon and I was told I would have to back up my phone and do a factory reset. Glad I didn't have to go through that.
Using the Google Pixels C I keep getting told the microphone is not working and to reboot the tablet. I Just cannot get it to work at all. The mic works fine on all things it has to, EXCEPT the one thing I want it to LOL
The solution on Pixel:
Settings
Battery
(Upper right three dots)
Battery optimization
All apps
De optimize OK Google enrollment and Google app
Just mail me and definitely we will find a solution

Trying to use ok google to phone my wife 'Jude', keeps calling 'Judith Benson'; Changed contact to 'Lewis mam', now when I say ' ok google phone Jude' google says 'calling Lewis mam mobile'. Any ideas?
There is a setting within the Google app which allows you to assign a nickname to a contact - saying "brother" will call the assigned contact. This may be what's causing the problem.
It continues to tell me google is offline to check my connection but im hooked to wifi and have full service. Anyone have this issue and know how to fix it?
I will share with you what I did, although I have no way of knowing if this is exactly what made mine start working again. I had the very same problem you're describing, and tried all the options listed here, to no avail. I opened the Google app, opened the 3 horizontal bars at top left, went to Settings, chose Voice, then chose the Question Mark in the circle icon at top right, and sent a Feedback (at the bottom of the page). I described briefly that Voice stopped working for no reason, that I had tried every option listed with no luck. 2 days later, I went to use Google Voice out of sheer habit, and it was working again!! Good luck with yours.
What useless help... Come here looking for troubleshooting this on my phone and what is the first thing: Go to Voice... What? Where is voice, because I can't find any program or app on my phone called voice and there is nothing in the settings menu labeled voice which means that either we are talking completely different versions of the Android interface or you need to provide more details about where this 'Voice' is, because I'm looking elsewhere for my answer and not spending half an hour trying to find Voice on my phone.
PS: yes, I see the part about changing settings in the languages, but I don't see Voice in that area of the menu.
You can find voice in the settings menu in the Google app. Hope I could help!
Hope I can help. If you go to the icon called Apps, (a square full of little boxes), and choose the G inside a circle Icon, then the 3 bars at top left, and Settings, you will find Voice. Also, if your Voice has stopped working, refer to the reply I posted to Joshua (above yours) and maybe that will work for you too. Good luck.
The help isn't useless. Most phones have their own setup of Android. Try saying what your phone is, someone might be able to help you.
When i say Okay Google the screen comes on but does not make an opening sound. If I'm not looking at the screen I don't know when to start talking. I've looked for it in settings but simply can't find it. Any suggestions?
Narrowed it down to Step 5 and that worked. Thanks for the article.
I Suddenly had this problem on my Samsung s6. I ended up locating the svoice app and disabled it. Now all good.
This article is not correct. There is no option there to retrain voice model on my Samsung Galaxy Core Prime. I'm highly upset.
Go to settings, go to Google (in personal section), go to Search & Now, go to Voice, go to "Ok Google" detection, the under "Ok Google" Voice Model at the bottom click Retrain Voice Model. This is for a S6 hopefully it's the same for your phone. Good luck!!
I have the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime and I had a similar problem; the fix was to open the Google app itself not Google Now or Google Play- then click the bar in the top left with the three horizontal lines. Your settings should be in there. Hope this helps!
Just wanted to share my solution for anyone else who up might be in the same boat. No Google voice rec services were working on my Nexus 5x. I tried all the methods described in the article to restore functionality. In the end all I had to do was make a quick phone call and magically my mic was working with all voice rec services again. East enough thing to try. Hope it works for you.
OK when I first set up OK Google it ran perfectly until one day I decided to retrain Google voice, there I sat with the phone in responsive I tried and tried to no avail then just about a day ago I decided to root my device and now it picks up OK then freezes
I'm using a blu studio energy 2
Running lollipop
For some reason now, when I touch on "OK Google detection" absolutely nothing happens. Just about an hour ago it reached to me pushing it. But then I was told that my Google Search needed to be updated. Do I sent to the Play Store and did so. And it's since then that I can't got that option to react to me pressing it. Sand truth be told, AAAAALLLLLLLL of this started because the box that pops up and has the red button in the middle of a black box to record what j day. Well suddenly that block box turned white and nothing cud be read in it. And when I looked it up, there were as LOT of people having the same issue. Well I got that issue taken care of and not it's the"Ok Google Detection" option not responding to my touching it. Any Ideas???
Having this same issue on my CM phone w/ Gapps.
I have two theories.
1. A recent update to the Google app is causing this behavior on KitKat devices.
2. After changing this setting on a device running Marshmallow, it is interfering with the older device's ability to open up that option on a KitKat device.
It's driving me crazy right now because it keeps burning through my phone's battery in just a few hours which is why I keep it disabled in the first place.
Samsung galaxys duos 2 gts7582 Google play service not supposed /same usjar id
I have a problem even when it works! All "formatting" (pause, pound, star) it's dropped from my stored phone numbers when "OK Google" makes the call. What's up with that?
I've tried every tip in this article, and all the tips in the comments TOO! None of them worked for me. It worked great when I first updated my phone to 5.0 a few months ago. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S4 with 5.01 Not sure if I had done ANYTHING (updated an app or installed new app etc.) before it stopped working. I can't retrain it, because it does NOTHING when I go to the training page, and say OK google. The animation just moves like it's waiting for me to say it. ? I really LOVED this feature, and I'm super bummed it won't work anymore. Especially after having it fir several months.
@Vicky Adair , have you tried the tip submitted below by @Reid Curry? Your experience was my experience, but Reid's tip worked for me on my Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 tablet running Android 5.0.2.
Try to ENABLE S-Voice and train it. Oddly, that worked for me on my Note (4) Edge.
I have a BLU Studio X Plus with Android 5.0.2. I cannot get "OK Google" to work by voice at all (anywhere). I must tap the microphone to get it to work. I have never trained it (saying Ok Google 3x). Whey I set it to respond to "Ok Google" on *any* screen, it asks me to train my voice. The arrow spins waiting to hear my voice, but never hears me, thus training never gets accomplished. Not sure if training is a necessity when only wanting to use the feature within the Google App. When in the google app, I press the microphone and all works well. I have the correct language set. My microphone is clean (and hears when I push the microphone button). I do not have S voice. I have data access. I cannot retrain my voice, because I haven't trained it in the first place.
Any suggestions? Thanks!
UPDATE:
This is the only thing I have found to work.
1. Go to Settings>Apps>Google App
2. Tap Uninstall Updates.
3. Confirm both dialog boxes that pop up.
4. Set up the Google App the way you normally would.
5. Go to the Play Store, tap on the entry for the Google App. In the options menu in the top right corner, uncheck automatic updates.
I have exactly the same problem as you. You continue with this problem today?
I just did a quick search on Google, and found that to solve the problem, you have to disable all accessibility services. It worked for me.
WOW I thought I had done this by disabling every single thing under accessibility, after I read your comment. BUT... I was going through all the tips and comments again, to make sure that I had done everything, and I just noticed that there was 3 apps that had permission to use accessibility. After I unchecked all 3, Google now is working again. YAY I just wonder if those 3 apps will still work now? ? LOL Thanks for posting this comment.
Yep! Can confirm. I found 'NEXT' lock screen enabled on accessibility. After disabling it - 'Ok Google' works again from Google Now app and from any screen!
Thanks, Reid! Your procedure worked for me.
I have tried power down, forced hardware button reboots, enable / disable S voice and all the tips here. Cannot get my Galaxy S6 with 5.1.1 to run Ok Google unless i go to the app icon and tap it. Worked fine when phone was new. Dont know if problem is the android update or an installed app. Out of frustration i installed an app "Robin" which is similar in function.
After installing Robin "okay Google" started working. Though the verbal "Okay Robin" did NOT work. Uninstalled Robin and again no response to Ok Google.... reinstalled Robin and never opened it to do initial setup but Okay Google is working. Note, this time did not even setup Robin to wake up by voice command and even if it was the command is "okay Robin"
Some how installing Robin activates the microphone to be listening.
I'm about to try disabling s voice again, but my problem is after I access the Google app ok Google works perfectly from any screen. Unfortunately as soon as I turn the screen off it stops working. Until I go into the Google app again I have an s6 edge.
"This may be stating the obvious but the feature does need Wi-Fi or data to operate, so make sure your device is connected before you try a search."
Good point. Your voice requests are sent to Google. You can review them at any time on the Google dashboard.
Great point, sometimes we get so caught up in tech that we forget the bleeding obvious.
Check the apps that you've permitted to have access to notifications. My Google Now wouldn't work until I unchecked the box for an app manager I use.
This worked for me. Who would've thought...thanks.
