5 awesome music player apps for Android

When Apple-to-Android converts tell us about why they switched, the words 'iTunes' and 'oppression' always crop up. The way you consume music on Android is virtually unrestricted, and there are a huge number of music player apps to choose from. Some of you may have your own music collection and don't want to stream anything. Here are our favorite music player apps for Android.
1. Phonograph
For my money, this is the best looking music player available. Phonograph nails Material Design and the UI is silky smooth. You can change the primary and accent colors, letting you add a little personality to the app. There's nothing too flashy here, it just executes everything perfectly. I've honestly not encountered a single problem since I started using it, and does it all with that clam beauty that Android excels at.

2. Shuttle Music Player
Probably the best-looking music app on Android, Shuttle has a good line-up of features, including a six-band equalizer, and automatic downloads for artwork and lyrics. Shuttle also uses Last.fm scrobbling, which will work out which songs you listen to the most over time, and help tailor playlists to your liking.
If you splash out US$1.75 / £1.10 for the paid version, you get more themes, folder browsing, and even Chromecast support.

3. jetAudio Music Player
This is one of the better music players on Android, mainly because of its strong host of tweaks and effects you can add when listening to your music. Plugins include the AM3D Audio Enhancer and Bongiovi DPS, which enhances sound processing in a way that true audio enthusiasts will appreciate.
Pay £3.29 / US$4.99 for the Plus version, and you get a whole load of widgets, viewing options, pitch shifting and much more, making this possibly the most tinkery music player out there.
4. Poweramp
As one of the most popular music players for Android, Poweramp is a safe bet for your musical needs. Album art and lyrics can be integrated into the player, and it provides an impressive 10-band equalizer to help tweak your sound output. You can even save your EQ presets, allowing you to set up specific ones for specific headphones.

5. Google Play Music
Finally, if you want a good all-rounder that streams music too, Google Play Music offers access to a huge online catalog of music. You can stream it if you have a subscription, but the app can also play the music stored in your smartphone library. Google Play Music syncs with your Google account, so your playlists and songs are accessible across multiple devices.
Google Play Music also offers customized recommendations based on your current listening habits and music library.

Alternatively, if you'd just rather stream your music and have everything in one app, you can check out our list of the best music streaming apps for Android.

Think I commented on this article last year...
Without hesitation I would say that Playerpro is by far the best music player app - the developer has been producing great apps since the early days of mobile applications specifically with S60 Symbian OS.
Playerpro has excellent sound quality great features including Android Auto & Chromcast, as well as expected features (Lyrics/ID3 edit /album-artist picture/full screen widget/).
Would happily recommend this to anyone who loves listening to music via their smartphone.
Peace ?
Google play music works for me. Fewer apps installed the better.
I agree with AIMP being a very good player
Jet Pro & PowerAmp are the best. Btw...Jet is $3.99 not 4.99. Rock on!
I don't keep much music downloaded to my phone, so the only one I use anymore is Google Play.
Jetaudio is my favorite music player and Onkyo HF Player is next.
You realy should try AIMP. This is very oldschool player. Looks like good old WinAmp for Android.
You forgot to include Retro Music Player
were all these players available for free? Suggest me one which offers more feature in free version itself
PlayerPro as been the Best Music Application i have used since joining Android,so easy to set up and use, plus there best offer it does offer a"Exit" button so you know its not running in the background and not battery draining my phones
PlayerPro is by far the best. The devs are always making updates with the latest Android features: Android AUTO (I use it in my Car), Chromecast, Nougat/Oreo notifications, material design, 10 band eq and more.
Do not install Poweramp if you're running Android 8.1. some of the features are not working and the developer won't fix them until his version 3.0 is done.
I've been using Impulse Music Player. I mostly listen to music while driving, this player makes it a breeze. I can skip songs without even looking at my phone. It completely works on gestures.
Also it has ton of options like crossfade, gapless playback, etc for someone who is a music freak but they don't matter much to normal user like me. All in all this is the best music player I've used on android so far.
Audials-pro
Take a look at Musicolet Music Player.
It is the lightest music player with tons of features. It is completely free. No ads. No in-app purchase. Yet it gives all the necessary features and quality sound offered by the paid app.
Thanks man! It's really lightweight, runs smoothly on my old phone.
if u want a new music player with beautiful interface yet friendly to use, u can try WinBow music player
it contains separate top 20 and last 20 played tracks so u can play them easily again and again, also u can see artist images and many more
Really, you should review Stellio music player app
Deezer

Stellio music player is best for me
The best quality for music player is, to my opinion, sound quality. Seems obvious but often forgotten.
I was for years with Dfx Audio. Thanks to comments here, I discover Neutron and I immediately uninstalled my paid Dfx Audio Enhancer.
This is the most complete and sophisticated Audio player I ever used. Just look at features on Google store.
But with a very ergonomic design. You can access quite every feature from the first page without having to Swype or click like a mad.
Free and complete for five days
, then it's 6$. Which is not expensive when, like me, you listen to music on a smartphone (Note 5) from 6 am to 12 pm. A real gem to try absolutely.
have u tried jetaudio?
I like SoundSpot is free and you can download music from youtube, also a great music player => ttps://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.soundspot.musicplayer
for me? still BlackPlayer EX,
but Jetaudio good too.
im using jetaudio a few yrs and bought all of its plugins. what would be awesome thou? if we could connect jetaudio to spotify :D
I love Impulse Music Player. It's completely gesture controlled so it's damn easy to operate even without looking at screen.
Some days late, but.... #PlayerPro
music on my SD card is not identified by Google Play Music or even by VLC. any tip to resolve this?
I like Stellio Music Player. The paid version is pretty good.
I don't often listen to music on my phone, but I have Google Play Music and Spotify, and I like Musixmatch because of the fact that it shows you the lyrics. Sometimes I will love a song but be unsure of certain words in the lyrics, so it's helpful in that regard.
Playerpro allows you to download lyrics and attach them to the song.
what about pixel player
Neutron.
I just use VLC for all locally installed media - may not be the "best" interface but it's one stop shopping for everything and no need to learn and remember which app for what and then how to use it.
I agree, Black Player EX is simply the best
BlackPlayer EX is still missing. It has many features I didn't see in other players I've tested: artists' biography (from last fm), tag editor,...
Black Player is missing in the list. I've tested pretty much all best music player and I chose this one for its functions and design
I recommend FrostWire! It's the best Music Player for Android. www.frostwire.com
I just released a new update for my app JukeboxPlus. Quite a few changes the biggest being you can now rate your music from 1-5 stars and view songs by rating and view highest rated artists. Also a handful of other minor improvements. My next big thing is going to be custom themes/colors. Let me know if you notice any bugs or have any feedback. I'm looking to keep improving the app. Thanks! ( play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.goudysoft.jukebox )
No Spotify? I know it's kind of obvious, but still...it's really good.
Jetaudio WINS
Phonograph!!
I have been using PowerAmp for years after just randomly picking it the one day and enjoying it. Sadly, I do not use my phone often anymore for music and when I do I just turn on a modded apk of Pandora with unlimited skips and a download on like feature. May just end up ricking the stock player due to this.
Still cannot believe there's still not one music player in the entire history on android that supports smart playlists the way apple does it...
PlayerPro Music Player supports smart playlists the way apple does it, (identical) and rocket too
"PlayerPro Music Player supports smart playlists the way apple does it, (identical)"
Nope, not even close. PlayerPro has less than half the options in their smart playlist feature and is missing two of the most important power options: Playlists based on playlists, and nesting. And Rocket Player, too.
But, they are as close as it gets.
I'm the developer of JukeboxPlus... a new music player app. My main goal was to make an easy to use yet highly functional music player. Give it a try. play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.goudysoft.jukebox
Update your logo and design of app to material and we can give it a try.
no... please don't add material design I get sick if I see something that's material design.
Shut up, the Material Design is best thing on a app.
This have old design, ugly.
For my design I tried to pack as much functionality as I could into each screen. I wanted to fully utilize the space so everything a user needs to do is right there and not buried in menus and subscreens/views. I admit my design isn't the most beautiful... I'm still working on making it better. I've added transition animations for the next release which is coming soon. My main concern is adding more features. There will be a song rating system in the next version also. and hoping to get in some more stuff like last.fm scrobbling and color customizing very soon.
All of the best with your Media player Chris I hope it's a huge success. Reading what you have in mind it sounds like it will be a excellent player.
@Caio O. hahahaha ooooo somebody's having a temper tantrum. Shame my son.
Interesting...
Saavan Apps is Very Good Apps for music
my Aunty Alexa got a nearly new cream Volkswagen Passat by working off of a laptop

I have two Android devices. One is a Nextbook tablet model number nx007HD. The other is a ZTE obsidian. When I attempt to download an application out of the Play Store on the Nextbook I received the following message - review your account to continue installing apps on Google Play. I can download applications off the internet from websites just not from Google Play. I have no problem downloading apps from Google Play on my phone just on the Nextbook. Can someone please tell me what I must do in order to be able to download from Google Play on the Nextbook
This article should be awarded 5 stars if theres anything like that. Very informative...from all the apps mentioned shuttlemusic and mixzing seems to be ma best so far. Shuttle music is very easy to use and i love the equalizer settings and mixzing radio knocks me off...thanks a lot guys
Where's Phonograph?! By far the most beautiful music-player app with an awesomized material design GUI.
Sadly, by lack-of folder playing and other important feature I stick with Poweramp and a material theme.
Note: Power Amp only shows directory information (looking untidy) if the Metadata properties for Album and song title are not present. I've used Power Amp for several years and love it.
Apple Music?
Too bad that the article is incomplete and misses the best android player: Black Player EX
Lets try
PowerAmp is the absolute winner. It's always been and with the processing that was added recently, sound has never been better. No other music player can beat that.
I'm using
Shuttle Music Player
it's a really good app
I use Shuttle Music player as a daily driver. It is lightweight and has a gorgeous interface. The other ones would be GoneMad Music Player (How can you forget it???!!!), Poweramp is super cool as well. If you want the music player with best material design interface try Phonograph Music player. It just blows you away!
Using Phonograph Player now and love it so far. It did start with stopping at first after each song and restarted phone and now it seems to work fine and with last.fm default app for scrobbling. Only thing that is bad is they have an option for equalizer and there is no equalizer at all. I hope they add one soon. Sounds good without one but a little more bass would be nice too.
Denon have a pleasant enough audio app that works for me ..........
Yeah I have a demon audio system too
Tried all the above.
*Rocket is looks good but I need more tuning options.
*Jet audio gives huge number of equalizing options but something is missing.
*n7 has very old interface
*Poweramp is good all rounder
These are the player that got me:-)

Music Player (Fabulous). It is one of the newest music player in the android market plase that supports material design.
Please give it a try. And your valuable feedbacks too to make it the best music player in the android market.
I landed on this page because I'm so frustrated with Google Play Music that I'm searching for an alternative. It is a ridiculous battery drain that turns itself on without warning and runs in the background until you manually kill it. I've had to kill it four times today, and I didn't even open it! Based on on my net search for a fix, this is a consistent problem with the app. You might want to revise your list.
power ramp is really good
you really should mention Chromecast compatibility when reviewing music players.
Mine is Shary Music player. I think It's the best android music player.
Simple and lightweight, My Music Player is a great solution too : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ssaurel.musicplayer .
As far as the sound quality of the music Neutron Music Player is on another level than all these music players you listed. It's not the easiest to use at first but after a few days you won't ever want to listen to music on anything else bc the music quality is so much better on Neutron Music Player.
in deed
Best sound quality :)
Worst UI however :((
Yes Neutron is by far the best sounding player and with Noozxoide is heaven on earth
Noozxoide or ViPer4AndroidFX?
No BlackPlayer or BlackPlayer EX? What a shame.
I recommend to try «Neutron Music Player». I can't insert web addresses here, so go to Google Play Market and search for «Neutron Music Player». Or visit neutronmp.com
Try Muzigrid -- Amazing way to manage playlists, Chromecast, Lyrics and more!
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.muzigrid.muzigridplayer
Check out this music player app, it is stylish with customizable themes play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.musicplayer.mediaplayer
Okay but besides PowerAmp, which ones can fast forward and rewind (not just skip tracks) with bluetooth headphones?
Playerpro can't but I'm always open to try anything else if it's more convenient.
Is this feature not dependent on the headphones rather than the music player app?
Try this one .. YOU WILL GET AMAZED
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.musicplayer.player.mp3player.white
One of the best app for Music lover. A huge collection of songs. I loved it.
www.play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=freemp3player.com
I've used Playerpro for the last few years and it's brilliant. It looks good, it's fast and slick, the layout and UI is easy to use. It produces great loud sounds via 10 band EQ, with added option of bass boost, virtualise, reply gain & pre amplification. It has great widgets, you can download lyrics manually or via musicMatch.
I would strongly recommend that you purchase this music player.
Cheers
Phonograph
Has anyone checked out Solo Music Player? It's very new. But I can tell you that it's gonna give these list toppers a run for their money soon. Just have a look at it & you'd know why I'm saying that. It's the most beautiful app I've ever seen. Can't post links here so you'll have to go n search for it.
Lemme me try anyway. They might approve this! www.play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.anjani.solomusicplayer&hl=en
and what about usic
search on google play srote : com.tyolar.inc.usic
Whether you re going to the gym, or having a party with friends. Just sit back and let usic serve you great music.
Features:
• Listen to unlimited songs
• Play any artist, album, or playlist
• Play any song, any time
• Search for any song , artist, album
• Enjoy amazing sound quality.
• Access your music anywhere , and save your favorites
• Get smart recommendations based on your tastes
i love it and esspaicialy coz it's FREEE
One player that get's overlooked is Radsone DCT player runs smooth and has amazing sound. Have two to choice from, and the dev's are quick to help with any problems.
I've changed the mobile brand and one of the things that I miss the most is the Sony's WALKMAN (new MUSIC) player. Beautiful and excellent player
Have to agree with that. It's the one reason I always go for Sony phones.
Seriously?
Has no option for Genre. Has trouble displaying international characters to the point where Walkman (aka Music) creates faux albums, splitting them in two. Cannot read properly FLAC - displays no year in album List.
Try to manage 80+GB of music with this and you will see - it's just a nice skin over a lazy attempt.
Thanks for the article. Netflix app, Hulu or BBC is great on Android. If live outside USA, you can use tools like UnoTelly to get Netflix app, Hulu or BBC on your Android.
Try maven music player for that matter, you won't be disappointed with it's different sound tweaks.
u r right but the only annoying thing about it is unless u have the tracks with numbers @ the start of the track title it places all the trax in alphabetical order so more or less out of order
So far I've only used Google Play Music and I like it because they will offer Feeling Lucky where they tailored the music to what you like to listen to. I'm going to try the other players also.
I tried them all and I have to say, my personal opinion is that PowerAmp is the best music player on the Play Store right now. If someone could come up with a better one, that would make it double-perfect cause this one right here is already perfect the way it is at the moment. It's got the sound tweaks that I like and need, the most important of them being that 11 bands feature from the equalizer that let's you set the low and high frequencies the way you prefer. Most music players have only 5 or 6, so less "tweakability".
I am using MyAudioStream and fully satisfied with it!
Don't forget phonograph beta,
it is the most beautiful player ever.
Without doubt Playerpro is the best music player. Absolutely brilliant...
Where is playlistsound.com ? There is a lot of music
I use Dfx Player Pro. Now on sale for $2.99. There is a free trial version. Features are poor compared to Poweramp but the quality of the sound is fantastic. And that matters for me.
For me it's SnoozySound it allows you to stream and to download music and relaxing nature sounds for free and mix them together.
doubleTwist doesn't even get a mention? It's easily one of the best music apps available for Android.
Rey Music Player : The New Way Of Music
***It's FREE. and AMAZING LOOK AND FEEL
Available on Play Store : *** REY MUSIC PLAYER **
Try Anyplayer !!
I Like 4Sound - Free music player. Easy and beauty mp3 player.
Rocket Player.. i love it
the best free apps worth trying are Maven Player and Star Music...my favourite paid app is PlayerPro
Best audio player I've used and really enjoyed recently is BM Player by FuntitudeApps. i like the fact that its lightweight, portable, and regular updates updates too.
In my opinion the best one is Shuttle.
Best Free MP3 Music Player for Android
For More Information Please Visit www.baatkar.com
I'm using "AnyPlayer" which is simple, yet powerful music player.
Awesome look and feel.
Hi Guys, I found a Crazy Awesome app to Experience Music, It's " FlipBeats"
This app is incredible the first time you use it it might seem kind of awkward but after a while you get the hang of it and Beside that the equalizer and all the features just go along great I would say that this app might be the top number 1 music player on the market that's how great it is. :) give it a shot (SWAG)
These are my favorite music players:
1. musiXmatch
2. Shuttle+
3. Google Play Music
4. doubleTwist
playerpro is the best
Shuttle+
Neutron player awesome features :)
Jetaudio plus is heaps better than poweramp
And where is Apollo?
What about Walkman?
Tune -in radio was not on the list here which is my favorite , why?
How about double twist? After having it for so long i 4got there was more options available when it comes to music players
I recommend this one: Coolshare Explorer. It show you a different way to enjoy cloud - a way
with hands free - you are carried instead of driving - you don't want to drive as you enjoy.
Try it out. search Coolshare Explorer in Google Play
A music player should and always be user friendly. Powerful yet simple
Music (Remix) the best one I've ever tried. Followed closely by PowerAmp
noozy (by dogsbark studio) is very simplistic, sound-quality oriented player.
Pair it with Noozxoide EIZO-rewire pre-processor + some quality music sources and you got yourself a high fidelity player ;-)
It doesn't have all the fancy stuff all others do, though.
I love AIMP, tell me what you think about that one :)
JetAudio Plus with Bongiovi DPS is the best music player.
Music players are among the most popular devices to use for entertainment. It allows the user to personally occupy themselves by giving them the choice of what music to play.
So here is my favourite - XenoAmp
A Slightly Different Audio Player

So JRiver Wins for Windows 7 when it come to connecting your audio jack to a Big Pro 500RMS above Ampliflier
Now for Android Tablet, Power Amp Wins Here
Roar Music Player is a powerful music player for Android.

Rocket Music Player FTW! Rock on!
poweramp is worth every penny!
Poweramp is worth the money.
@Chinedu, developers have to earn something, for some deving apps is their main occupation, just as blogging is the main occupation of the Androidpit ppl...
and the price is more than fair (and way better than having annoying ads in your music player), and be happy that you got a trial, some players you probably can just buy and can only test them 15 minutes before having to give them Back, which is not much, also the Key Concept, is better than the Demo and Full version concept of some apps since you lose the data of the demo and if you applied a hell of settings it would not be nice to lose them.
I even bought the rather expensive MX Player pro, which only kills the ads. But the Devs have really really earned it.
I rate Poweramp player above any other Android player found on Google Play Store. However the only downside, I guess, is the 'trial' thing. After just a few weeks of trying out Poweramp, the features literally evaporate. It should be free, with no ads of course, and then I will give it 5 stars.
It's the best music player out there. It SHOULDN'T be free!
wow. seriously????? it's not even that much money. i GLADLY bought poweramp.
Same. Its really worth it.
I MUST really say That Poweramp is a really good choice
I always use it on my devices to listen to music simply because of its awesomeness...
Who needs Cloud integration on devices with Wifi only or on a very limited highspeed internet? well I dont really think I need that and even if, I have Spotify...
