Galaxy Note 4 Android update: latest news

After initially being shipped out with Android Kitkat, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 received a steady stream of updates from Android Lollipop, to what seems like its final version, Android Marshmallow in mid 2016. The Android Marshmallow brought with it a breath of fresh air, with tweaks to Samsung's Touchwiz, the Doze feature and an updated S-Pen menu. With Android Nougat rolling out on more and more Samsung devices, we now await confirmation from Samsung if the Note 4 will receive the latest android version or not.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Android 7.0 Nougat update

There has been no official confirmation from Samsung if the Galaxy Note 4 will receive the Android Nougat update. It was noticeably absent on the device update list that Samsung Turkey shared in February 2017, which confirmed the Galaxy Note 5's Nougat update. It is more than likely that the Galaxy Note 4 has reached its EOL - End of Life, and will not receive any future Android updates and remain on Android 6.0.1.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Android Marshmallow update

A list leaked in November 2015, revealing that the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 was set to receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update by February 2016. The updates did roll out, starting in Hungary followed by the US carrier Sprint at the end of March 2016. In contrast, the European roll-out was slower, as it seemed to skip Android 6.0 and immediately updated to Android 6.0.1. The update weighed 1.3 GB, which shouldn't be surprising as it's a substantial change.

Along with the usual Marshmallow features such Doze, the Galaxy Note 4 also received a new version of TouchWiz. The changes were however minimal. The only noticeable update that arrived was for the S-Pen, for which the menu was updated stylistically to that of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5.

How to install the latest update manually

First things first: flashing firmware to your device comes with risks, especially if you're using a carrier-branded device. Proceed with caution.

If you are impatient for a new version or wish to downgrade to an older version of Lollipop, you might be interested in learning how to manually install a certain Android version on your Galaxy Note 4.

To do this, you will need to download the factory image of the Android version you want. Many of these can be found over at the XDA Developers forum or at Make sure to get the correct image for your device by checking your device model number.

Once you've acquired the correct image, check out our How to get Android Lollipop on your Galaxy Note 4 guide.

I think it is ridiculous that Samsung released the update for the cheaper s5 before the more expensive Note 4. I buy the companies premier phone and I'm penalized for it. Pretty stupid.

  • Note 4 is a still a powerful device that Sammy should still consider.I dont know why samsung mistreats its clients this way,I heard that they wont support it anymore or else we go to custom roms

  • My dear note 4 users! Lets request samsung to send ota for Nougat updates

  • Please, dont make the same.mistake like I did. I INSTALLED F... Marshmallow and in the last 2 days i checked all kind of pages to go back to lollipop. For example, in battery doctor when I was optimizing I had 38-40 items with lollipop. With marshmallow i have 120 !!!! It will drain youre battery like Sahara drains the water. I have a samsung galaxy note4

  • As of today, T-Mobile USA still has it in Manufacturer Development.

The Marshmallow update has fried my text and mms capabilities. Is there any way I can go back to Lollipop? I have an intl version G Note 4, using NET 10. I've updated the APN settings, but still mms texting is screwed up.

  • I don't know if I could reasonably hate this update anymore than I do. It's confusing and in some places impossible to navigate. The new s pen menu doesn't function at all and a large part of my work is being able to screen cap and note emails. A lot of my data is missing and to top it all off my password isn't working half the time to unlock my phone. I'll be very upset if I have to abandon my Samsung phone for an apple but I will if it means my business doesn't suffer anymore.

  • Wow - Samsung please stop destroying my phone. Contact info is all scrambled or missing. Ring tones and notifications are reset and I can't find the option to set them back. Maybe I don't like what you like and would really like to leave my phone the way I had it. I am not sure if Samsung did the force download or if that was Verizon, but I should have clicked no everyday forever. New features good - changing my personal settings and making my apps load a black useless screen - BAD

  • I have had the same issues and found the solution. It is best to hard reset (Volume up+home+power) wipe and factory reset. Then start the setup process (passing the Google Account section). Now your ready for Smart Switch. Should download even if your knox has been modified.

  • Why I can't update my note 4... when I press the update key not any respond also... whats going on... can someone tell me?.??

  • The marshmallow update will roll out march/april. But since my phone was dying quicker then usual i got a new battery and now it's back to normal.

  • when again update note4

HOW CAN A COMPANY BE THIS F'NG STUPID. It's clear you spend 2 days with the upgrade and you see issues.

Did they even test their phone???

I am NOT going to get this upgrade. It's going to remind me every 24 hours. Great. Might Factory reset now and turn off updates.

How does a company release ass like this???

And how are you guys getting new phones? Do y'all have insurance?? Did you have to pay a restocking fee???

I am using unlocked Note 4 At&t(N910A) on T-Mobile network. (bought from private seller). It has 5.0.1 version.I checked software update under setting. but it just says check aft 24 hrs or so and says software is up to date. I also tried to change date and try to check software update but no luck
    I also noticed following points
    1) No wifi calling option
    2) No Video call
    3) call forwarding option alwasy get "Sim or Network error"

Not sure is it limitation of At&t note 4 phone Or issue with my specific phone.

Any input will be great on this.

    • Your lucky don't upgrade software til 6.0 comes out I had what you had and went to 5.1.1 now my phone is sluggish and lags at times , and also when battery gets to 20% just shuts off.

Thanks for reply. Are following points are known limitation of Note 4 AT&T?
        1) No wifi calling option
        2) No Video call
        3) Call forwarding option always get "Sim or Network error" ( i tried to change sim card ,factory reset but no luck)
        Note: I m using under T-Mobile network.
In T-Mobile version phone, I can see all these options.

You just needed a new battery, and maybe a new charger, I had to get both mine died at 30% battery left

  • Still waiting on an update debated if not to get a new phone but nothing out there interest me including the iphone. Only phone which kind of caught my attention was the HTC one a9 cause HTC ones just run smooth like butter, only thing is why get it now when the m10 is around the corner. Decisions what to do, it's so hard to make a phone with great battery life and good camera I guess the note 4 was the one but this stupid software update is killing my dream major buzz kill.

  • I too am experiencing difficulties with the new update as my messenger keyboard freezes for a long time before letting me text. Battery also overheats. What is going wrong with this update.....please help all of us!

    • Savage Apr 10, 2016 Link to comment

Try a new battery and charger, see if that helps and check all your open apps your ram could be overloaded

  • I have trouble with the phone over heating and when the battery gets 20% it automatically shuts down its extremely annoying and I don't know what to do if I should go back to kit kat or wait a few weeks for another update.

  • I am having a lot of trouble with this update on the Note 4 with T-mobile. The keyboard freezes when I go to text. It appears they are trying to be like the iPhone and show when people are typing and when the message is read. Those are nice features but when my keyboard lags and I have to wait for it to stop freaking out before I can continue to type or erase what I type it become a problem. Sometimes I pull up a text message and the keyboard takes forever to open. Is anyone else having this problem?

    • i have the note4 aswell and having issues also with the phone the keyboard lags so much i cant type and also the phone is getting over heated to much and all my videos lag please sum1 help

    • Im having the same issues with t mobile

  • I have a note4 on t mobile still running kit Kat 4.4.4 baseband version N910TUVU1ANIH every time I hit software update it says no updates found.. I live in SC does that matter or is my phone not eligible for update. According to t mobiles support page it is.. can someone help please..

  • The update on note 4 is not trash, the first day I had a battery drain problem but after restarting the phone and clearing my cache out, it now works just perfectly fine with no probs. Let's knock on wood , I can go out and buy a new phone but I don't really Wana waste money over software updates that can be fixed. So for the time being I'm happy with my note 4 still.

  • The Note 4 update on Tmobile is not trash. Tmobile has had an influx of "common, not tech-savvy, normals" invade the network. They constantly say things are broken when the solution is simply deleting some bad temp data that they put on their own phones.

    Normals make me SICK!

    • If it's that simple why is tmobile giving me a new phone? The updated made mine useless. I did a hard reset, and it's still garbage. Been a samsung user my whole life, never had an issue like this. The update and phone combo is garbage. Get over it fan boy.

      • I'm a tech fanboy. And the problems that arise are often because users don't know about their devices. But then again you might be right. Tmobile with all its cheap Normals tend to complain more than any other carrier.

Glad I'm with Sprint and my wife isn't tech-savvy enough to try and upgrade her Tmobile Note 3 on her own.

      • I was with Sprint for 10 years, no complaints with them, they just didn't have the coverage for where i live now. It was spotty as hell. But when i was on their network i didn't have many issues. Have tmobile now because it works where i live, and yes, they are cheaper. Had no issues until this update, so I am going with the reasonable man theory here. Lived through a lot of updates with 2 carriers on multiple samsung/android devices and never had any issues. This one hits and now my phone is garbage. There has to be a connection. Meaning, the update is trash.

      • Tmobile a store is giving you a new for or assurance insurance is? Are you paying the monthly amount for insurance, or is tmobile seriously handing out new phones for people who are having issues with this?

        please please tell.

  • This update is complete trash!! I've nearly thrown it out the window too many times to count. It won't open and run apps, it closes them down and either freezes the app or the entire phone, all of the time. It took 50 minutes to type a 7 word text!! It over heats, and the battery won't charge properly. Basically I've got a $500 paper weight. This is ridiculous!! SO pissed.

  • 5.1.1 is garbage. Note 4 with tmobile. Shuts down randomly, typing stops and starts when it feels like it. Exits apps whenever, freezes when you try to open anything. Battery drains when it's idle and gets hot to the touch. Right now all it's good for is to be a beer coaster. Not sure who to blame. Android, Samsung, T Mobile?

  • I'm on the same boat as the rest of these guys. I have a Note 4 and this new update has completely trashed my phone. Way too many glitches and bugs. I'm wondering what they pay their QA and development team for because this is pure garbage. It is a disappointment because I have been an Android admirer, however, this last update is making me think Android has stopped caring about quality.

  • I have the note 4 with t mobile. This is the worst update ever ! After I updated my phone the only thing I was able to do was make phone calls. My phone kept crashing, the battery life sucked, I could receive text but I couldn't read them, it deleted my phone numbers, photos, and the back up I had. T mobile had to send me a new phone. As soon as I got the new phone it asked for the update. I won't be installing it until they figure something out.

    • do you have insurance? why or how did tmobile send you a new phone? the same phone?? whaa??? is it a refurb?

do you have insurance or did you get to go to a store and get a new phone??

      • Lol. Im in usa California an i also have a g note4 but here in usa the note 4 has been discontinued for about a year and a half you can still find some plces that have new ones but their really not new so most of what you get is a refurbished note4 . On mine it was having the overheating issues but it raN fine . I happened to have shattered the screen an was having it fixed next door to verizion store an i got a sweet deal on the s6 edge plus same screen size but its rolled edge plus it came with a 200..00refund and the oculus gear VR unit for free so really only cost me 100.00 great deal. But i am a fan of the note 4 and have kept it as a backup phone . You all seem to have one thing in common and thats tmobile carriers .like i said i had overheating problem and thats it but im also a Verizon customer. Maybe its time to change carriers cuz the note 4 is a great device.. and samsung is the best android phone this s6 edge plus is awesome and i hear the s7 edge is even faster lol almlst wish i had gotten one of them but im happy with s6 edge plus. I wish you all well and i hope tmobile fixes their issues.

  • The new update for my note 4 has just trashed my phone its a dead stick now keep starting up and shuting down I have lost a lot of money on this phone before the update it was fine now its a no go had to by a new phone and its not a Samsung . I have all ways had Samsung phones NEVER AGAIN BE AWARE

  • got off the phone with a operator from verizon i was told the note 4 is due to receive a " update" in the middle of this month i ask what kind of update it was. she was unable to answer weather it was 5.1.1 or a security patch. i asked around the 15th she said yes middle of the month. so we will see as according to samsung we are gonna get marshmallow in febuary however with verizon that means like oct

    • Yes Verizon sure can be a bit slow in getting out them updates but my new s6 edge us it went right to update soon after i started the updates after purchase . Granted it isnt the s7 edge but update was ready and seems to be wkrking fine . Has somethings that need to get use to but over all its ok.

  • I can honestly attest that it's a good durable phone, lol. I even cracked the outer shell of my otter box case I had on it, if that's any inclination as to how mad this whole situation has made me and I've almost had it for a year.
    available in cbuystore.....

  • Marshmallow update on the Galaxy Note 4. The update isn’t the official but this guy somehow managed to pull it off.

I Loved my note4 with android 5 especialy with its camera modes, but had so many problems with that lollipop thing! My phone kept restarting and having problems with its battery. It never charged itself 100. The samsung services changed its mainboard. Now it doesn't update its android 4 and by the way, works like Big Bang! But I want that camera, what can I do? And why doesn't it update automaticaly?

    • S6 edge plus has same screen size but fits in your hand better and phone is smaller tben note 4 and the camera on s6 edge plus is 10x better then my note 4 im loving thks camera .

  • I have the Note 4 that came with lollipop 5.1.1 already pre installed. I purchased the phone not even 2 months ago, and this is my second one and its about to go skydiving. I have no 4G LTE service anywhere I go, and it jumps from 4G to nothing but bars constantly. A week after getting the phone, I have done every single thing possible to fix the issue even with my carriers support. They cant fix it, they send me another brand new phone and guess what? It still does it. So next thing u know, I bitch T Mobile out again and blah blah... They said keep the phone, we will unlock it for you. I now have hard reset the phone and bought a new sim card and got service that I know is the best service for my town, long story short, IT STILL DOES IT!! I think Samsung and their phones are nothing but shit and scams and a waste of tons of money. I would never recommend Galaxies of ANY kind to anyone after my issues with not 1 but 2 brand new phones. Samsung can take that lollipop and stick it in their A**.. Now I have to generate IMEI and install certificates for ROM and all those headaches just to have 4G LTE and service period. Thanks Samsung for your piece of shit!!

    • you might have a fake note 4, you might want to look it up on youtube..

    • you got me paranoid. i have the Note 4 with Tmobile. Reading your comment....aaaahhhh!! I would go bonkers. Maybe I'll wait for Marshmellow....

    • I completely understand your pain but i believe the problem is lollipop not your phone. My wife went through three nexus phones when lollipop first came out and swears never to have a nexus phone again but I'm convinced the problem is the OS. Im still running Kit Kat on my note 4 and way too gun shy to let tmobile install lollipop. I wish you the best of luck.

      • In my experiences sometimes its the carriers fault once in awhile it can be just a bad phone an other occasions its the os bad update or something goes wrong in the process of update yhat makes phone go crazy seems lime some phones take it fine and others freK out but i still do say im hearing a lot of you saying your on tmobile sometimes you get what you pay for. I must add that samsung phones are the best out tbere yes ive had my fair share of problems but every phone flagship / make/brand has their own set of problems but i stand firm samsung is #1 man sorry.

    • Hi Josh, I've had a love -hate relationship with not only T-mobile but with the S2, S4, S5 and now the note 4, lol. I think every carrier and brand has their glitches unfortunately, however I cannot break- up with Samsung. I too had a similar problem at one point with I think it was my S5 before my WiFi card unexpectedly died inside the phone itself and I was forced to replace the whole phone completely (hence how I ended up with the Note 4), but I can't can't remember how I fixed the problem. I think it ended up being a WiFi setting/WiFi calling setting preference along with a network setting or something along those lines. It's so hard to recall when you don't have the phone in front of you to troubleshoot and see what the current settings are, if you know what I mean. Re: the updates, I had one back in Aug or Oct I believe that really messed up my phone; everything that everyone's saying here (battery draining quickly and without warning, phone rebooting & over again, Google mic /voice to text error and not disappearing from screen, problems with screen rotation, battery over-heating, etc.), however with last update last night, those errors have finally disappeared. Thank god too, or else this phone was gonna get it and not in a good way! Put it this way, it's a miracle it's survived this long after the abuse it's taken. So, with that being said, I can honestly attest that it's a good durable phone, lol. I even cracked the outer shell of my otter box case I had on it, if that's any inclination as to how mad this whole situation has made me and I've almost had it for a year. I haven't upgraded due to financial reasons and also because on the newer models I don't like the fact that you cannot remove the battery if needed. I hate how Samsung copied iPhone in that respect. Really dumb if you ask me. Try not to give up yet. If you can hook up with a good techy online and get yours going, I think you'll be really satisfied in the long run.

    • I've had the note 4 since it's release date last October through tmobile.... never had a single issue with it at all! No idea what you're doing but it's gotta be something wrong..

  • Kea Nov 25, 2015 Link to comment

The update is crap! I am not at all impressed with any of the updates since i got my phone and now it keeps jaming and restarting since my last update! I JUST WANT MY PHONE BACK!

  • My Note 4 (sm-910A) is the AT&T version but I'm using it on t-mobile. Whenever T-mobile releases the Android M update, will it also come to me or would I have to wait for AT&T to release it for the 910A and download it manually?

    • The update is pushed out by your service provider. You'll get the T Mobile version of 5.1.1 when it's available. 6.0 also.

      • Nope, if it is a at&t phone, it must be updated by at&t but since he is not on at&t network, at&t won't push it. He will have to manually download the update and flash it (using Odin).

Or as Wesley Gorman said go to best buy and they will update for you.

      • That's not completely accurate. I thought it was the same thing. I have the SM-N910A and I'm using it on Cricket. Yes it is accurate that it must go through the AT&T servers, but they will release the update to all AT&T phones. Mine updated from 4.x to 5.0 today by going into the software update section of my phone and checking update servers.

  • Nice update for my AT&T Note 4. Minor changes. No need for a reset imho. Cleared cache, seems smoother. I rather have more minor updates than large ones. Seems to be less issues "usually"that way.

  • I have the samsung note 4 on tmobile network and I have 5.0.1 andriod on my phone, my question, is my phone supposed to update to 5.1.1 then 6.0 marshmellow if so i dont even have the 5.1.1 yet and when i go to update device it says its up to date. Lol idk what my phone is supposed to be at right now

    • My phone , the 910g model of the note 4 got it just a few days ago. I know it might be frustrating but give it a few more weeks and you'll probably get yours. This update really sped up my device although not making a difference in gaming performance. I'd say it was worth the wait! Stay strong and patient. You might be recieving it soon

      • What update did you receive? And what's the size of the system update? I've received a few updates in these 3 months of purchase all being 5.0.1 with only smart manager as something new.
Mine is the same 910G model.

    • Go to best buy they can push the update you missed. It should of updated via ota (over the air). Call before you go and confirm they can with your carrier.

    • 5.1.1 coming soon. 6.0 you'll be waiting a while.

  • I am really peeved that since the update it wiped out half of my Facebook contacts and unlinked them from the existing contacts. And now no matter what I do my phone cannot sync with my Facebook contacts so now they are lost. Really annoyed as I had them and now I don't

  • I can't get the upgrade I'm running 5.0.1. It downloads & tries to load but after its done it says unable to install....

    • Happen to me, after the 6th try it fully went thru. There was traffic issues during the upgrade. Many other factors can be the reason. I almost sent to best buy as they can force it thru for ATT

    • Take the phone to your service provider. They will flash it on there..

  • Awesome! I installed it last night. No issues at all. I have att 32 gig note 4. Even without factory reset it workwd fine, but i decided to do one anyway later in the day, juat bexause im used to doing it after major updates. Works flawlessly and seems snappier. Battery seems same...maybe better while phone is idle...but when inbuse it seems same.

  • I Have a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 From AT&T.. I still have it Android 4.4.4. I am in El Salvador right now.. The article says that the android 5.0.1 is already out for AT&T. I did follow the instructions through settings >> about device >> software update.. After searching, it says that there is no update available yet. I did try also using samsung kies3 to update. But, still, there is no 5.0.1 seen for my unit. Please help me what to do about this. Thank you very much.

  • omfg they better fix this i cant use my phone at all

  • I've just bitten the bullet and updated my uk note 4 to 5.1.1.

So far no issues at all and it seems smoother all round - less laggy.

I didn't want to update based on the negative experience others have had but I went to the store and they hadn't heard of any issues so I thought I'd risk it. Mine seems fine so it's strange that some are having such a terrible experience with it.

    • I'm in UK also, keep calling Vodafone but they too busy counting sheep, I mention 5.1.1. And they go into overload. My old note 3 installed lollipop months ago, so it's more up to date than my note 4 edge, pretty crap deal really!

  • Big Shit!!!!!!!!!. Screen rotation stops all the time.
    restarting automatically,
    Affecting whole mobile perfomance.
pls do not update this one.

  • Has anyone experienced a problem when speaking rather than typing a text that you can't get the speech window to disappear without restarting your phone? It covers up the bottom half of my screen and I can't do anything.

    • I have the same problem with my AT&T note 4,but it only seems to do it when I'm using swiftkey keyboard, when i change to Samsung keyboard it doesn't do that, and i haven't figured out a fix for it yet and I love swiftkey so much better than other keyboards, just wanted to let you know your not alone.

    • Use the google keyboard. I had that ussue as well. Download the googlebkeyboard from app store

    • No. Percentage of people always had issues after a upgrade. Factory reset would fix that most likely.

    • Press the side button on your phone and turn on "airplane mode" then wait a couple of seconds and then turn it off. Somehow it clears all the background apps and that annoying window. If that doesnt work, restart it.

  • Guys, This is shit !!!! again, cant send messages, cant add contacts, cant check my contacts, battery drains super fast it became shit, some apps doesnt work properly, 1 of them is whatssap, i dont get notification sometimes nor sound that i received a text. everything is slow... WTF !!!! as well as the phone over heats doing nothing, do something ASAP. let us know that you will fix it if not so that we do something ourselves... go back to iphone, might turn out at the end that its better !!!

      • Select Application Manager (or Applications)
Using the tabs at the top for ALL (apps), find “Contacts Storage” (NOT “Contacts”), select it, then choose “Clear Data” and OK.
Go into your contacts and they should start to sync (or check the Account Properties for the Google Account and do a sync)

Received my update last week and it is horrible! Like everyone else is saying, the screen locks up in the middle of doing anything, I get the black screen of death, my keyboard went back to stock, lost some contacts, I'm sure there are lots more issues I haven't noticed yet. Definitely going to look into a reset or re-flash.

  • Hello The lollipop update hasn't bein received in Africa,Kenya to be specific yet Android M is being rolled out in USA.why is that .my model is SMN910H. Kindly look into the matter because we are not upto date with the technology in Africa. I have noticed we are the last ones to get updates

Ever since this newest upgrade my phone, like a lot of others from what I'm seeing, is freezing, shutting itself down, slow and unresponsive. I pay a lot of money for this phone, FIX IT. And also, I've already done a factory reset 3 times. Tried with and without my memory card. Doesn't matter, still same results

    • Took mine back yesterday for exchange.... And surprise, there's a back order. Guess you and I aren't the only people with that problem.

      • z kap Sep 2, 2015 Link to comment

Isn't that just wonderful news..guess I shouldn't waste my time with going over to Delaware then.

  • Oh nice now it won't let me send text messages -_-

  • Suit yourself. I refuse to be oppressed or inconvenienced by ignorance. And your problems seem extreme for an update. Mine and most others runs fine. Go to your service store and make them fix it.

  • Just get an iphone. I used to love Samsung but they do this every time to get you to buy the latest phone. I haven't heard complaints about Apple so far. Bite the bullet and switch teams.

Is arrived..... lollipop 5.1.1 in Italy H3G

  • I shouldn't need to "educate myself" on anything other than my phone and it's features to use them. I am normally very tolerant of a few issues here and there so long as I can do what are now considered the basics for smart phone. Having to reboot from time to time or re-connect blutooth devices or find small workarounds for some things is not a big deal for me. The issues I've experienced (after now having had the phone for a year) following this last update which I accepted this past week, are criminal. It locks and freezes constantly, the battery wouldn't charge at all last night leaving me with 0% this morning when I woke up. It shuts itself down pretty often too. I want to (and I don't think it's too much to ask to be able to) restore my phone back to the previous version. I don't think I should have to educate myself on how to use ODIN and how to download and install another ROM to counteract the effect of this software update provided by my carrier.
Can someone offer some straightforward directions?

    • Hi Kalonji (and others with similar problems)
I had the exact same problems as you describe after installing the Lollipop update... and was on the brink of scrapping my Note 4 and going back to my Note 3. Then I read about the ODIN and 4.4.4 ROM... downloaded all the files and followed the simple instructions and Voilá... I had my old phone back! better battery no problems to speak of other than one that finally drove me to try again with Lollipop. After the 4.4.4 it kept popping up with. "there is an update for your phone" etc. it took up space in my notifications menu, it "popped" up when I was exiting stuff and I then had to exit the install update now page. All very annoying. Then I stumbled over a small post on some forum where a guy described another problem which was solved by wiping the phone (factory reset) and then wiping the cache before instaling the 5.x update (this was from 4.4.4 installed by ODIN which was quite easy after search on google pointed to a website explaining in detail how to do it) This had drasticly improved my batterylife and I haven't had any of the other problems I had before.

So to people comming from kitkat 4.x try this before updating, to others try reverting back to 4.x first. remember to take screenshot of your version etc. under "about phone" tab in settings (and ofc. save this to the cloud so you can access it if needed) or just write down all the info on a piece of paper.

    • I have been having the same issues you have kalonji! It has become very frustrating. :(

    • A simple solution i sugest to you guys. Go to your service provider's service center and have them re flash the update. This isually works.

  • All you people who are freaking out that 5.0 ruined your phone. You need to educate yourselves how to use ODIN and download the factory 4.4.4 ROM. (or any other ROM for that matter) That way if you are unhappy with your update; or you brick your phone, you just re-flash your phone back to KitKat, or whatever, and your happy again. Make sure your you use Kies to backup all your stuff as well (before you agree to the update) If you do that you never have to worry about bricking your phone or getting stuck with crap after downloads. Just have to do some searching and reading.

  • My phone updated through Sprint and has been nothing but troubles. It's horribly unstable now. Never had a problem before, but now I need a new device and probably won't go the Samsung route again. It keeps going to my lock screen in the middle of using it. Then I get the black screen of death. It take between 3-8 seconds before it decides to unlock. I constantly have to restart for it to work properly, then becomes unstable after about 20 minutes. I wish there were some way to go back to the previous version but I cannot find a way. Bye bye Samsung, maybe when you've figured it out before releasing the Note 8 I may reconsider.

  • This "update" ruined my phone. I seriously believe that this "update" is plagued with a virus. Screen freezes, takes forever to wake up, turns off spontaneously. If I wanted an Apple product I would have bought one in the first place. I will be taking my phone back to the carrier store to ask them to please do a reset. Total BS

  • How does that help us with UK Note 4's?
Anyone know the location of the valid telephone provider 3 firmware 5.1 upgrade?

I received this update today and immediately received a cryptic text message with some code and an emoji with a surgical mask. Didn't open it, but saw that much in preview. Also, I now can't clear the notifications from my lock screen. The "clear" feature is gone. I have to swipe my lock screen and manually pull down the notification area to clear, or open email, Twitter or whatever to clear. I turned off notifications until the issue a fixed...hopefully soon.

  • I received my update is morning. Only problem I have encountered is that I cannot open any PDF files with any programs! I use this phone for business. Is anyone else having this issue? And if so, how do I fix it??

  • This post, like many others, is completely and utterly useless, it basically says "the update that the carriers said was coming is coming, from carriers, for your phones". I'm more than sure that this poorly-written article was created only for one purpose - to be seen on Google. The authors should be ashamed of themselves, I really regret ever thinking that Android pit was informative... The truth is that this website is just like a million other websites like it, probably created by the same organization, to sell ads and cheap accessories, promoting whatever they get paid to promote, like BGR and Blackberry, what a shame!

  • I hate this new update! My phone keeps freezing up! I has never did that prior to the update

  • Screen swipe, for screen capture doesn't work on my note 4 after update?

  • I love my note 4, but I'm ready for the 5.1.1 lollipop update to be released via Verizon. I did receive the Stagefright software download on yesterday. It took between 10-15 mins to upload on my note 4. I truly hope this means my lollipop update 5.1.1 is near.

    • Yea me to my pH is so nice I just don't get all the complaints, I'm gud I totally agree with you bring out 5.1.1 already. For crying out loud we r not gana shuck a great note 4 for a crap 5 pls already lord help me !

  • Will Samsung ever update touchwiz for the Note 4?

    • I don't think so. I have the Note 4 also. This will be my Last Samsung device so I guess I will never see a TouchWiz Update.

"We have said it time and again that the Note 4 has been treated rather badly for a flagship smartphone, and we really don’t think that is going to change with a minor update like Android 5.1.1. Updates will probably keep coming to the phone for another year, but without the new and improved version of TouchWiz, whatever additions these updates will bring are very likely to be limited to core features of Android. Anyone wishing to get all the fancy stuff from Samsung will have to upgrade to a device released after the Galaxy S6, and the Galaxy Note 5 will be the best bet for Galaxy Note lovers, despite its lack of hardware features that have separated Samsung from the competition in recent years." From the Samsung Mobile Site.

      • What a pity for the note 4. Yeah this will probably be my first and last samsung phone due to my bad experience with samsung treating it poorly. Thanks for the reply though

    • Not yet they think we r tht stupid to through out this note 4 and put down more for da 5 are we tht stupid !

  • VZ is spending more time creating new/confusing /unWANTED plans they're dropping the ball about getting what its customers REALLY want, upgrades quickly!

  • Update was pushed to my Note 4 (Sprint) today. I ran it. I don't see the changes though. Says 5.1.1 on build, but the changes it's supposed to have aren't there. Like the Priority/None stuff, the Quick Settings. I can't see it anywhere, I've been all over this phone and I don't see them. It's like it updated the build number, with none of the actual build. ????

"In settings > Sound & notifications > Interruptions"

Nowhere does it say Interuptions ... ???

  • I hate this update Yes! The colors and design are more beautiful and after the SECOND update it fixed my baterry draining problems BUT now I can't record any videos wich I don't often use but I've tried it and it acts like it records but when I go to watch it it says it can not play I'm soooo annoyed by this same with the camera I take the foto and we I review it it I only show the edges and the whole picture is gray. This needs to be fixed and soon!

Stagefright fix for me yesterday morning

  • The update makes my Note 4 feel like a new phone. The memory management is insanely better, and many things (like recent apps) are faster. Battery life is great, too. I've heard of several problems, but haven't experienced any of them.

  • The new Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Android Lollipop update containing the Stagefright fix was available for download and install this morning for me.

  • Yea man this wating sucks (×÷=) I'm not built for wating when it comes to this stuff Miss Favre this is not good it has to drop now like now aldry, I know not ur falt but man !

  • Battery drains fast after update in 5.01 i regret this update. Play store not not installing my applications its only installing for ages. Freezes lot of times. Dont update your phone. Honestly soeaking

    • CRAPPP!!! drains phone way quickly

    • Yes this is my experience as well. It takes absolutely forever to download and install apps. I tried clearly cache data and even did a clear of the partition cache. Nothing resolves this. When trying to view a picture that you've just taken. It just sits there for like a minute before actually letting you do anything else. CRAZY!

      • Made my note 4 laggy and unresponsive. Now whenever I press the lock button or home button when the phone is locked to wake the screen it takes a solid 2 seconds for the screen to wake up

  • 29th July been and gone. Perhaps it was July 29th 2016----may just as well be, lol.

  • Well it's the end of july

  • They didn't tell you WHICH July, lol.

  • I don't know about ur pblms but my note 4 is running so nice it feels like I just bought it today and to even think about the next version is not on my plate. This note 4 is a keeper for a while coming form apple yea this is by far the most powerful all u can think of more tricks u can think of on a phone . It's still # 1 on my mind even if it's considered old pls as far as issues none I don't know wht but yea wrks beatiful!

    • Yes sir, agree 100% My Note 4 is fast and the screen is perfect and the battery life is awesome. The SD card holds thousands of pictures.... I will not upgrade if this Note 5 does not have a SD card.... My Note 4 is just fine.

    • If you are not experiencing problems than you are not using your phone all that much in terms of what it is capable of, glad to hear some ones not having issues with the new android lollipop, but the rest of us our pretty annoyed that we have to wait so damn long for update to fix the new update

      • People seem to have a hard time believing that after this update, it has become the root cause of my phone freezing on the lock screen. I literally have to remove the lock feature so it does not freeze. I will probably do a factory reset but this is ridiculous. Its the maybe the 3rd or 4th time I've had to do a hard reset since getting the phone in may.

      • Thanks for the comment i updated to 5.1 1 sprint my phone freezes on the lock screen and my message app keeps freezingI already did a factory reset and wipe cache got a little better but it still freezes

  • I have been lucky, I haven't had any issues with lollipop either on my note 4 or nexus 9. However there Re updates that should have happened. I feel they are neglecting the note 4 on purpose the increase the spotlight on note 5.

    Not fair

    • Plus it's nearly the end of July. There hasn't been a peep since 5.1.1 was released in Russia... must be delaying the release. They may as well go straight to M... which I have on my nexus.. it lovely.

    • Me neither. ..just the camera and green I'd like a scene from willy wonka

  • When I press the button on the S pen of my galaxy note 4 to activate air commands, it restarts (reboots ) instead. What could be the problem and how can I solve it.???

Please any one helperson me if you know what I can do.

  • Hate my Note 4. I was not fortunate enough to get it when it was running KitKat 4.4, soon as I opened it, she updated to lollipop. I'm not saying the phone is bad, bcz it's not, I bought it bcz spec wise no other phone even came close but the garbage Lollipop update has made this phone the worst Android and Galaxy phone I have ever owned. Overheats, apps crash constantly, randomly restarts and this is the second Note 4 I've owned bcz I swapped it with all the issues I had. Still terrible. I don't know how much longer I can hold out for 5.1.

    • Have you already tried a factory reset, i heard about many people having problems with lollipop, but a factory reset helped most of them.

      • The factory reset was the best thing I'd ever done to enhance the quality of my Note 4's performance. The reset didn't revolutionize it's functionality, but it'd simplified the RAM consumption somehow.

      • Just tried to do it for a secobd time since owning this phone, it works better but still not great. One of my most used apps still struggles to stay open from memory consumption, but others are running better. As the gentleman above stated, it runs better, nothing revolutionary, but its a little better. Still nowhere near what it should be able to run.

      • I have the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4. I will try resetting it after I backup my settings to Google.

  • Me to can't wait until this new update drops my note 4 is aldry waiting for it if it's this great now and if this new update is only a couple of features, tht will add to aldry great phone in my book !

  • At last Note 4 is getting lollipop 5.1.1

Why all the problems with L update ? Must be a lucky one? I've no complaints at all oh sorry when I first downloaded update to L it needed a factory reset once I did that hey presto it worked mint. I hope we get the m update faster than the L or I might be tempted to jump to nexus device again and the rumours about a new nexus at 5.7 sounds nice.

  • ►œ►œ►œ►

  • My version wont even install. it looks to be stuck at about 20% and hasn't moved for 2 days and i'm extremely pissed off. I need my phone for work and i cant stop the install now or it will brick my phone. Don't install, wait a couple days

    • If you connect to Kies 3 then you should be able to remedy that whole problem just download Kies 3 onto your computer then connect your phone and then you can get it straightened out

  • Rooting can be great. Just have to be careful you don't brick your device. And it will void your warranty.

  • Yay ! ! !..............

I'm happy fix my mind to stay with KitKat ......
All the time i'm confused to update or not but ill stay with my current OS.
i have 1 issue while i'm playing Clash of Clans. When i rotate my screen my mobile is getting stuck sometimes.
don't tell Root :p i have my warranty still he he he......................
I have been factory reset, newly install the game done all the things i have no idea

  • The upgrade is stupid, my phone was perfect before I got stuck with this lollipop. I would boast about my phabulous phablet to everyone & tell my husband how better my phone was when compared to his Galaxy S5. Once the shittipop was done having its way with my vulnerable precious phablet, I was left with a sticky mess. There's no need to compare the Note 4 to the S5 anymore, now it's just a big S5. Seriously, the Note 4 is an S5! The obvious differences are the size (duh) & the S-Pen of course but on the home screen, look at the app/folder sizes & the spacing between them, this was the biggest difference to me. They are the EXACT same size as the S5! Since the same sizes were used from the S5 lollipop the only way to accommodate the larger area on the Note 4 was to add more space between them. If you do change the font size it becomes too big accompanied with really small font or it's all too small...It just doesn't look right. You are left with no choice other than leaving it the same size as the S5. There are no options to change the size of the folders, oh but you can change the color of it...stupid! Size does matter & so does what I'm looking at on my big black phat phablet! So why have a phone so big that it's even been dubbed as a phablet when it's just a big sticky S5 lollipop? If anyone reading this is thinking about getting a Note 4 save some money & get a Galaxy S5.

    • Install the Nova Launcher. I bought the Note 4 and installed lollipop. I almost returned it for the reasons you mentioned. I then found many on the Web suggesting Nova. It gives you the ability to control how many icons are on the screen along with many other customizations not available with Samsung TouchWiz. It's easy to install and use like any app. It's awesome and there is a free version in the play store. If it was not for this product I would have definitely returned the Note 4.

  • Who has problems with Facebook with the Note 4 on the 5.01 update? Facebook constantly freezes on mine and the play store randomly takes me to certain apps to install.

  • Since l have been updated Note 4 to 5.0.1
My phone's battery's life became shorter. And music player can`t play well when screen is turn off.

  • ....

  • I got so many issues with this lollipop update on my note 4 it turns off the rotating goes nuts n freezes I called tmobile they couldn't do nothing n told me just to wait for another update I told dem that sucks

  • My Note 4 has been awesome with the 5.0.1 release. 5.1 should be even more amazing. Battery life also depends on what is running on it. Mine is still running perfectly.

  • jonjon Jun 13, 2015 Link to comment

This update is a ball of shite. My Note 4 was perfect. No faults what so ever,,,, then I am forced to update and now my battery life is not the same it is running slower.

A point to note people if something is not broken don't fix it!!!!!!!

  • Google should be made to replace a person's phone for this debacle.

My daughter and I both got note 4s and they WERE the very BEST phones ever. Unfirtubately, we were forced to upgrade to lollipop, and our phones have become pieces of trash!!! And all we've been getting is NO HELP!!! Just empty promises that Google and others are working on it to get things fix. Unfortunate, or phones have been rendered nothing more than junk!!! PLEASE DON'T IGNORE THIS. It's a fact!!! It IS TRUE!!!

    • I updated my Verizon Note 4 on the first day available. I have experienced no problems and have excellent battery life of approx. 2-1/2 days. Sory for your problems.

    • Root it. You won't be sorry.

      • Hey bro i saw u suggest root to anyone that have a problem in note 4 lollipop now i have note 4 N910c and still slower than kitkat and i need any solves to be fast like kitkat if there are any solves tell or i need a good basic custom rom that will be smother and faster and all the same features work or tell me whats about CM 12 lollipop 5.1.1 on my note 4 N910c

        Thanks waiting ur answer

    • So true, I loved my note 4 and used to tease and brag to my son about how great my battery life and overall performance was compared to his iPhone 6. But after this update several months back I now hate my phone. Battery suck now..constant wifi issues while all my kids iphone have no wifi problems on the same home network. .Facebook is now slow, buggy and freezes as well as simple Internet browsing now always ends in a frozen blank white screen and then a complete crash..even when I make a call there's like a 5 second delay from dialing to when it responds. This update was a total sham!

      • I totally agree!! My dialer hesitates at LEAST a good 5 secs between dialing and actually placing the call. It randomly restarts, the battery life sucks, compared to what it was, the play store will sometimes take me top random apps, and everything is just plain slow 🐌!

My biggest issue with this update, happened just a lil while ago... I had a notification pop up from "lollipop"- I clicked on it and it took me to an "app" page where I was able to view all of its processes and permissions, clear the cache, and force stop it. I began reading all of the permissions and W.O.W.!!!!! Its allowed to read my texts, turn on/off/change my Wi-Fi, take photos, videos, use the voice recorder without my knowledge, delete ANYTHING, also without my knowledge OR consent, and a lot more. SERIOUSLY???????

  • I can't wait for this update. 5.0.1 is driving me nuts!!!!

  • It's nice how AP helps planet earth by recycling its stories.

  • I just upgraded it like a week ago and my phone started getting really slow it would get real hot and now it doesn't want to even read my SD card at all don't know what's going on phone was working fine before I upgraded it

  • SD3 May 19, 2015 Link to comment

The new update sucks. It constantly erases new photos taken and stored on my SD card and doesn't recognize certain files that were working before the update.

  • I just got 5.0.1 last night and have been playing with it a bit. I never had the sound issue, because I keep my phones silenced at all times. Something I have noticed though, is that my S-Window is suddenly more useful. My girlfriend has an LG-G3 and she loves the functionality of her little circle thing (which I've been jealous of) but I was never able to find out how to get notifications of incoming messages in my S-Window before. Now, I do.

I'd still like to see a few more options there (and, there may be more with this update, but I haven't look at that, yet) but I'm really happy with this.

  • I love the new update to lollipop 5.0.1 but my battery life is much worse. I'm down 15% after 2 hours of the phone sitting in my pocket not being used. Apps are all closed and WiFi is turned off.

  • I just updated my g4 phone to 5.0.1 the screen is now blindingly white with black print and gives me headachesand slight vertigo. I have the screen brightness turned down and the screen at an angle. I have read other users have the same problem. I was hoping to find a patch but it looks like I will just have to remove 5.0.1.

  • Updated my T-Mobile Note 4 to Lollipop OTA this morning. looking good so far. No problems with download and install. No apps crashing after updates from Google play store. I did not do factory reset after update, hope I don't have to. Performance appears to be faster will have to check if battery life has changed.

  • When is UK going to get any updates on the Note 4 ??

My phone is unlocked, running on O2. Is it going to be a jump from 5. to 5.2 or something silly, aka like S3 jump from 4.1 to 4.3. Hope not, that was a disaster.
I bought the phone 2 weeks ago, and the first thing I did was to turn off Updates, due to hearing horror stories of 5.01. Looking for 5.1.
    Still on KK 4.4.4.
One thing not happening on O2- not getting constant upgrade messages like from carriers over the pond, nor forced updates either.

    • Try this page and do it yourself. Sammobile dot com slash firmwares

    • I'm surprised you haven't been getting the updates. My Note 4 is also unlocked and running on o2, but I'm in Prague. Mine seems to be up to date, given what I'm finding on others here...

    • I have an unlocked international Note. I used Samsung's Kies software for Windows and the app immediately let's you update to whatever newest OS Samsung releases, bypassing your carrier. I've had lollipop for weeks now and my carrier hasn't even announced a release date for their locked subscribers. Please try that, despite all the negative publicity people give Kies. I do hear Kies is less supported on Macs so that may be an issue. Also, on windows make sure you are signed on with an administrator account. When I used my normal limited sign in, even though I had the administrator override password, Kies was not able to update the phone. It took me a lot of troubleshooting to figure that out.

Also to those who wish to NOT factory reset their phone after updating, suck it up and do it. It will guarantee a better experience and you need to learn how to sync your contacts and such eventually anyway, may as well now lol! Cheers and good luck

  • New way to push customers to keep spending money on the newest devices. They tell us its a upgrade, they tell us its a update with improvements. But I say the updates are a marketing tool designed to only run smooth on the newest devices. And if we are happy with a phone that's 8 years old and still works great. Well that's just not how business is done.

So what they don't tell you is... We will let you enjoy your phone or tablet for a couple years. Then we are going to force a Over The Air update. That will render your device slower then a solar calculator in candle light. And then the masses will be forced to upgrade the entire phone for another $600 device. I still enjoy my old S3 my wife now has, and my brothers S2 that works great for a non cellphone WiFi device.

Boycott updates, and protect the devices that still do what you need them to do. Before you are forced to spend more money on a new phone, you never needed before the last update.

Get your facts straight android devices only get updates if the device can handle it. Its not apple that pushes updates to all devices and make them damn slow. People complain either way. So no reason to boycot updates, Unless you have apple :P.
Best way to install is make a backup, then reset phone. install update, then put backup back.

I found my phone becomes slow responding. The screen touch pad seen to be less detection. Battery faster used up definitely. Playing music is not smooth, i guess it collapses the format. Playing game is the worst, all kind of graphic become lagging.

  • How to go back to Kitkat on Verizon Note 4?

  • the lollipalooser is a disaster. my phone was fine until the geniuses mucked it up. battery life is awful. favorite contacts can't be edited and no longer appear in a list, but with photos that don't exist, can't select default phone, but what if I want to call a favorite on an alternative number, notifications disappear after 4 seconds and then you have to hit button, then click up and then click down to get to your next 4 second peak at notifications, keyboard sometimes disappears, messages are too easily deleted, appearance is less attractive, camera is still lousy, phone freezes, widgets gone. I want my phone back.

    • If google can't get update right ( if it is google and not carriers extra bumware), then a new phone should be supplied.
Theywon't be in such a hurry to shovel out junk then.

  • My AT&T Note 4 just updated 5.01 a second time for some reason. The original 5.01 update was 2 weeks ago. I don't know exactly what was different in this build of 5.01 from AT&T. The first thing that happened was all of my SD card info wouldn't connect to its internal memory counter parts. I had to unmount the SD card and remount the SD card and that fixed the issue. I'm still wondering what AT&T put into this second 5.01 update? Does anyone know? AT&T website and community blogs have zero info on this secondary 5.01 update...

Don't care for the change in color scheme with the new update. Don't like the pumpkin orange headline view for the messages at all! Users should have the ability to choose their own background color schemes - and I'm not referring to the even more hideous color space schemes under developer options. Does anyone know how to change the default background color schemes? The current ones are not really appealing at all...

Have you guys even have looked into your camara settings and check the things that are missing. It's unbelievable how we buy a phone and then suddenly we get the wanted update then becomes like a different phone. Missing smooth recording in the video settings . My phone is working fine but I see lots of you guys are having more problems than me so I feel your pain . We better hope that samsung address the issues with lollipop on the next update . Am already thinking about going back to LG devices.

      • It has been renamed to 1080p 60 which is 1080p at 60 fps. So smooth motion is still present. It can also be found on recording size with the same label.

    • Wholeheartedly agree with your comment PAR13!

  • I have the Verizon Note 4... Running 5.0.1.
I put it off for a week (forced to reschedule the install every day, because Verizon wants to annoy you until you update.) It is running stable on my device, but it has only been a couple days.

The most noticeable difference so far? The overall design, and the much improved default keyboard. The keyboard got a fresh facelift, which will be obvious to everyone, but it has been much better at placing the letters I want. This may be a placebo effect, because of how much it reminds me of an iOS keyboard (which is the one thing I miss from my iPhone days,) but I don't think so. I have been having far fewer errors and auto-correct problems. That one fact alone made the update worthwhile.

  • Verizon Lollipop update for the Note 4 has been out since April 3rd.

  • Is there a reason you guys never mention US Cellular updates???
    You cover every other carrier.
    It makes no sense.
Not to mention, it's really frustrating.

  • Me and my husband have the galaxy note 4 with cricket and he got the update a couple of days ago and I still haven't gotten it. Would any one happen to know what's up with that?

    • OTA updates usually get rolled out gradually over a carrier's customer base. This helps prevent the servers from crashing, because if they just opened the floodgates then everyone would try updating at once.

I remember my Apple days... Updates came out and slowed all Apple services down for a full day or two. Apple has the capital and reason to invest in massive server farms, while most carriers can't justify the costs just for software updates on a select few devices at a time... Especially prepaid carriers like Cricket.

Absolute junk. Hate the update. My phone randomly decides to call people, randomly hangs up on people all the time, some apps freeze, oh and when my phone decides to call someone it freezes so I cannot hang up on the call to where I have to power it down my self, and it randomly decides to say my SD card is not working to it much trouble from this update.

Just did the update and it seems to be working well. A little quicker battery drop off so I'll probably do a factory reset soon. One thing I haven't noticed anybody mention is with this update my smart screen feature is finally working. It never worked for me before I updated but now it seems to be working perfectly which is pretty great.

  • Okay, so I have a few issues with this update to the 5.0.1 platform. First, since I have updated my note 4 all of my app notifications comes across in a banner form which I feel is an invasion of my privacy. If I let someone see my phone to watch a youtube video and a whatspp message, the entire message will appear on the screen

Second, I keep reading about this new notification setting with he update by pressing the vth key, I don't have this ability.

    Please help.

Just updated last night (AT&T 5.0.1). Took about 2 hours to download over wifi (50mbps). After installation, I rebooted my phone. So far, everything works great! Phone is way snappier - it's at least as responsive as my Nexus 5 running Lollipop. No app crashes or reboots. Launch and interface are faster. I've been watching battery closely and so far with moderate use today, it seems like it's unchanged.

Tip: With the Note 4, you can still enable mute on your ringtones. Just disable vibrations: Settings > Sounds and Notifications> Vibration intensity or Vibrate when ringing.

  • Verizon updated my Note 4 yesterday....whoopee!

Just noticed that I'm able to update now. But I'm kind of scared to do it now after reading what a lot of people have been saying. I think I'll wait to see how other Verizon note 4 owners say it went.

  • Lollipop for Verizon Note 4 is here!
Just received update 1 of 2 and it is currently installing.
    College Station, TX

    • Everything installed fine and many apps updated. I rebooted after all the updates were complete. 2hrs+ and not seeing any battery drain issues, if anything I would say battery performance is better than before. Only wish I could re-color the drop down notification menu, but for the most part, I am really liking it!

  • Lollipop seems to finally be rolling out on Verizon for the Note 4. I don't have it yet, but should receive it sometime this weekend.

  • I have the Note 4 and the Note 3 from AT&T, and the lollipop 🍭 update hit both of them about 4 days ago, Now the update download took 1 and1/2 hrs. To download and that with 75gbps wifi, my note 3 runs alot better with 5.0.1 no issues at all but as far as the Note 4, all kinds of issues from serious battery drainage to it kicking me out of Facebook and Google + everytime I'm in them, overhearing, alot of little bugs. Now I'm going to try a factory reset today to see if this fixes it, I ha e been told it will by many Note 4 users, good luck everyone I will update this post after the factory reset, have a great Note 4 day....

Don't be in such a hurry people! 5.1 bricked my Nexus 7 and I have yet to find any advantages to lollipop vs. Kit-kat. I did find the significantly slowed my devices, uses more battery and conflicts with some of my favorite apps.

when is the t-mobile galaxy note 4 getting update 5.0.1 sprint n AT&T when ahead that's sucks t-mobile usally gets update before other carrier.

  • Just updated my AT&T Note 4 to 5.01, it installed fine. The only issue was with the Google Play Store having to update after the 5.01 update. It took about 20+ minutes for the download to start for some unknown reason. Until the Google Play Store updated to the lollipop version I didn't have access to any app that was installed to SD. At first I thought Oh $|-|îł🙈🙉🙊 I just lost all of my apps off the SD card, but once the Google Play Store updated all was well😆

Updated my ATT Note 4 on Friday; took a while to download; but once done installed quickly without problems; generally a very good update to the phone. The phone has now more functions though it had plenty before; the battery life seems better as well.

  • We buy a Note 4 witch is supposed tto be Samsung flagship .. My son has the S5 and he has had lollipop for at least a month and a half now.. Both phones on Verizon network .. I think it is time to ditch the Samsung phone's . Had the same problem with the note 3 upgrading to kitkat .. Samsung and Verizon I'm tied of this BS already and I'm not the only one.. Next phone will be a Motorola. Had used Motorola for years should of stayed with them..

Its not Samsung, it's the carriers. They make the final decision when to release software updates. Motorola is in direct partnership with Google. Google knows and builds its software around Motorola and the Nexus lineup. Most carriers tend to wait until they feel it is ready for all their bloatware( speculation). Aside from the always up to date Nexus lineup, they are still inferior products to the Samsung flagships in the world. For the sake of context, I wrote this in a very friendly and calm voice in my head. LOL that sounds crazy, well maybe I am. Hope you get your update soon.

    • Samsung is not your problem. Samsung's largest income flow is from Verizon customers. Verizon is a garbage company who wants to control everything on your phone. They are forcing companies to lock bootloaders and remove android functions prior to allowing the phones on the network. This is not for your safety, it is to create more avenues of money grabbing for Verizon. Until other carriers build out a network like Verizon has built on the backs of fleecing all its customers, Verizon can and will control all that you do with a phone. Go ahead and go to Motorola. they were the first major phone maker to crawl into bed with Verizon and lock out their customer phones. Good luck with that.

  • Screw lollipop give me the next update ..

  • Curse you AT&T...I was excited to see the "software update" icon pop up on my screen this morning (oddly, my phone had rebooted during the night). Went through the long, slow upgrade process, got back in to check settings (since nothing looked different or Lollipoppy following boot), and find that AT&T had bothered to push out Android 4.4.4 to my Galaxy S5! Why, AT&T, WHY??!!

Apparently, AT&T or Samsung took their sweet time rolling this update and yet they've overlooked that whatever was in private mode is no longer accessible in Lollipop. The data is still there in the folder but it's encrypted and private mode no longer unlocks it. So anyone who has already updated and didn't unprivate them, your only options are to wait for another update to fix it which is god knows when or downgrade and then upgrade again.

  • Updated last night (March 24, 2015). It’s a large download and took a while even on Wi-Fi. Device got pretty hot during the update. It cooled down afterward.

Performance doesn’t seem to be affected, but this is just my first day. Boot time is double. Used to be about 30 seconds, now it’s 60 seconds.

I’m looking forward to getting my wife’s phone updated so I can try out the HD audio (if it’s available).

Overall, I see a few minor cosmetic changes, but nothing significant. It will be interesting to see if the “under the hood” changes make a difference.

Man Verizon is killing me on this.

  • note 4 in England still waiting on lollipop.

  • Minor changes - whatever u changed the colors and UI -I hate this my phone is HOT ....and slow to respond .......the touch screen got really S L O W - fix it
    Sprint Note 4-

  • Absolute garbage. Gear 2 connecrion, wifi, performance, battery life and over all UX has gone to crap after update to note 4. Constantly pocket dialing cuz they cant seem to grasp what the gear 2 does....answer and make calls so why in the hell would i need the screen unlocked after a call when i used the gear to do i have 100s of calls that are just pocket dials. Garbage. Thing gets hot just being in my pocket. 60% cut in battery life. Samsung and google tech support were completely useless.

  • Three days ago, on a whim, I tried a manual update... it worked! My Note 4 on Sprint now has lollipop 5.0.1 I've been playing around with it for the past two nights and so far so good. The new set up took me about a day to get used to and to figure out where everything is, but I like it and have had no problems so far.

When will they send out the update for the note 4 my wife have the note 3 and she have hers and we both have tmobile and I haven't received mines yet what's going on😕

  • "The Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Android Lollipop update has not been released yet. We will update this article when we learn more. " - I suspect there will be no update to this article until we already receive it.

  • Tyler Mar 16, 2015 Link to comment

I think it is ridiculous that Samsung released the update for the cheaper s5 before the more expensive Note 4. I buy the companies premier phone and I'm penalized for it. Pretty stupid.

  • mi kel Mar 11, 2015 Link to comment

I like Lollipop a lot but the battery drain is KILLING ME!!!!

  • For me is not working good at all. Freezing in lock screen and too slow when i want to expand the notification panel

    • I have tried so many things... I am at day 6 and I have been staring and screens the entire nights of each and it is wearing me thin. I am losing at 30 min and that without touching it... I use Android Assistant Pro and kill apps that I am not using and cleaned cache partition... I am still just reading every singer XDA forum post... and nothing helps.

  • I got my upgrade last night. Love it. I see a huge difference in speed, the flow is much more liquid and smooth. I couldn't believe the change.

  • Just got lollipop and not that much of a difference i can see, my battery seems to be draining faster tho

  • seriously AT&T needs to get on the ball and release it to the note 4 already, I mean all the carriers do, it's one of the newest phones from Samsung and they're releasing it to older devices first, granted I'm sure more people have the older devices, but the people that went out and spent the money on the newer devices did for a reason, and it's not to be last in line for updates. just my opinion.

  • Any Word on if this includes the Note Edge, cousin of the Note 4?

  • Now we are into March and still no update for the UK Note 4.
