Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S7 comparison: Design

The Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro has a 3D ceramic back with rounded edges that make it easy to hold. This edition of the Mi 5 is housed in the latest very hard ceramic technology and could set the standard for phone builds in the future.

There is a home button that features a fingerprint scanner and the camera is tucked inside of the body (more on that later).

The Galaxy S7 is an all around attractive device. It has aluminum sides with Gorilla Glass 4 protection on both sides of the device.

It has a smooth finish and an elegant, neat appearance. The phone is certified waterproof in case of any accidents. The camera sticks out slightly but the phone lays almost completely flat when set down on a surface.

Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S7 comparison: Battery

The Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro has a 3,000 mAh battery and it's claimed that it can be charged to 80-90 percent in one hour with Quick Charge 3.0.

The Samsung S7 battery is also a 3,000 mAh offering and has a curved shape to optimize the available space. It takes about 90 minutes to charge fully. The optimizations made possible by Android Marshmallow could mean that it can work for two days without a recharge.

The Galaxy S7's main camera is 12 MP and its front is 5 MP. It uses an f / 1.7 aperture lens, which boosts its low-light performance. It can also shoot 4K video in slow or fast motion.

Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S7 comparison: Performance

The Galaxy S7 we tested at MWC came with the Exynos 8890 chipset. This is an octa-core CPU with four cores clocked at 2.3 GHz and four at 1.6 GHz. It's backed up with 4 GB of RAM and means the Galaxy S7 should easily be able to handle almost anything you could do with it. The US version has 32 GB if memory.

The Galaxy S7 came in with an AnTuTu benchmark score of 116,668 while Xiaomi claims the Mi 5 Pro scored 142,084.

Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S7 comparison: Price and conclusion

The Samsung Galaxy S7 is a powerful smartphone with incredible capabilities and a sophisticated design. But the Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro is moving dangerously close to it in design and performance, and after MWC 2016, Samsung should be sweating. The Mi 5 Pro outpaces the Galaxy S7 in many regards, including its new camera technology, more memory and a stronger build.

Early pre-order retail prices for the Galaxy S7 range from US$649.99-694.99 depending on the carrier, while the Mi 5 Pro sits at an estimated US$413 (although with import taxes it could come in a little higher).

The comparison between the two shows the Mi 5 Pro beating the Galaxy S7 in many measurements, so can a price disparity that vast be justified? The difference in price could be so wide that we could be seeing a new era of smartphone dominance in the smartphone market. Xiaomi now looks poised to have its time at the top.

Which smartphone looks better to you, the Mi 5 Pro or the Galaxy S7? Let us know in the comments.

No doubt xiaomi is greater since Mi 4. High end device with fair price. But the thing is where is their pride for design. Appreciate mi 3 had a unique design, not that great but it is unique. Later devices their design is not worth for applause. Their design is great copy.

It has great design. Mi5 looks like an update to the Mi Note from last year. Mi Note introduced the curved glass display to the world and got plenty of praise for that. Don't buy into all that anti-Xiaomi marketing by Apple and Samsung. Those two are the real copycats.

You guys can say whatever you want but i will stick with my Xiaomi Redmi 2.
The thing that this phone has but Mi5 didnt is the sd card storage and removable battery.
I have 64gb sd card and 10 batteries. And a few of external battery charger.

I am able to move my apps and games to sd card by rooting and my Redmi can handle anything without lags. I played Final Fantasy 9 android remake that used 3GB of my sd card without problem at all.

And best of all, i have infinite cycle of battery life. When its reached zero, i just can take out the battery and replace with another one. The empty battery is charged with the external charger , without disturbing my phone at all. This mean, my phone hasn't been connected to cable for a long time.

The batteries are very cheap. There was one sale in Xiaomi website that sold the batteries for 30 cent USD!! So i bought ten and this changed my life.

About Mi 5 Pro, hell yeah 128GB of internal storage is more than enough. Apparantly it would be better if they have removable batteries and give some free batteries and external charger with it.

If Mi5 Pro vs S7 i personally think that Mi5 Pro is the clear winner. BUT if compared to S7 Edge, clearly the edge have that edge feature. The sexy display.

Plus, Mi5 should push the display up to 1440p or 4k. The technology is there but Xiaomi didnt used it which kind of bummer but thats okay though if thats gonna save the battery.

I wanna see the no bezel design(or edge feature) next year in Mi6.
Oh and also removable batteries(probably not), expandable storage(most probably not), 4k display, 6gb of ram, 13mp selfie camera like zenfone selfie, and stereo front facing speaker.

If none of new phone next year have all of these, im just gonna stick by my Redmi 2. Money is not the problem though. Battery life is. Time is. I dont wanna wait for USB charging on the phone for 2 hours because my business required me to stay on the phone almost all the time.

Wow, 30 cents for a battery, pretty nice deal!

    • Sebastian Bajon Feb 29, 2016 Link to comment

The 1440p or 4k display makes no sense on such small screen. What wil you use it for? Gallery? Watching the wallpaper all the time? I saw my friends LG G4 with a better screen resolution (I use Redmi Note 2 with FHD screen) and I didn't notice a thing. 4k screen? To drain battery faster?

      That's quite a charity you're running there Morozan :)
I'm excited to see it when it's released. I hope I'm right about the trend but it certainly seems to be that way so far.

I really agree with surya kumar. I really have bad experience with my Redmi note 3. The default Play store is Mi store not google store and we really not to root our phone to make it default and it takes a lot of efforts to do so. The other way is to ask permission to redmi website to do it.

    • Cory Schmidt Feb 25, 2016 Link to comment

Thank you for your comment Hariyanto.
What if Xiaomi managed to solve these issues? Would you then buy a Mi 5 Pro over a Galaxy S7?

    • jenie tomboc Feb 26, 2016 Link to comment

The Redmi Note 3 is intended for the Chinese Market only. There's a "No-Google" policy enforced by the authorities there, that's why Xiaomi RN3 only has the Mi Store and Xiaomi isn't obliged to give us an "easy" way to install GAPPs as they are already doing what is required by the Chinese government. However the Mi5 is intended for international release so it's safe to assume that it will include GAPPs and Google Services once shipped.

      • Cory Schmidt Feb 26, 2016 Link to comment

        Thanks, I hope so jenie.
Hugo Barra did an interview with The Verge and addressed this. He said that Xiaomi is eyeing other markets but they have no immediate plans. This was in the context of Google so maybe this will be solved with the expansion.

    • Sebastian Bajon Feb 29, 2016 Link to comment

Hariyanto, you can root Redmi note 3 for a couple of weeks now, wtf are you talking about?

    • Simone Grojean Mar 21, 2016 Link to comment

Mi store is much more powerful than Google Play since you can download any GOogle Play app and still download Chinese apps. Some of these Chinese apps are workarounds to Google Play apps that cost $$ so you end up with more bang for your buck.

Mi5 a good phone that many would not buy
