Strange message while typing messages in whatsapp

Hello,

I have been using whatsapp for several years. Recently, since April, I find a new phenomenon while sending messages. While typing messages to anybody including groups the screen displays the following message "syncing..." I checked whether syncing is turned on in my account but found it is turned off. I am unable to understand what is the messages get synced to? I am suspicious that someone is eavesdropping but cannot figure out how.

Can somebody tell me what could be the reason and why all on a sudden it started. I am using a Samsung phone.
