hi

I did a backup of whatsapp chats on google drive. After that I did a full reinstall of my Galaxy S8. I then installed whatapp and eventually the message came up asking if I would like to restore the backup. I mistakenly selected NO. After realizing what I did, I tried to redo the process. But instead of uninstalling and reinstalling whatsapp, I deleted my whatsapp account. When I now want to set up the account again, it doesn't give me the option anymore to restore the backup. Nevertheless I can still see the backup on google drive.

Is there a way to restore it?

Uninstall your WhatsApp, then reinstall it.
Make sure the Google account set in the Galaxy S8 is correct.
Now run WhatsApp.

Download size < 0.15 MB. But also accurate enough, ad-free & free.
The minimalist app available on Play Store: https://goo.gl/ws42fN

I tried that, but like I said the restore option doesnt come up anymore after verifying the number.

I suppose whatsapp is checking whether your profile matches the backup. and since I basically deleted my profile alltogether and created a new one, it doesnt match the backup anymore..

To restore your backup:

Uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp.
Open WhatsApp and verify your number.
When prompted, tap RESTORE to restore your chats and media from Google Drive.
After the restoration process is complete, tap NEXT. Your chats will be displayed once initialization is complete.
WhatsApp will begin restoring your media files after your chats are restored.

If you install WhatsApp without any prior backups from Google Drive, WhatsApp will automatically restore from your local backup file.

Thank you! Thank you so much. My mum had the same issue before, and she lost some important info in one of her chats. Your advice was helpful!

Uninstall and install WhatsApp from the “Play Store” and log in with the phone number that you were using in the previous phone.
While you do it, you will be prompt to restore the backup.
