Why don't some apps have their own icons on home screens?

I found that some apps in apps list of Settings - Apps don't actually have their own icons on home screen.

I wonder whether these apps have some special settings in their 'Application Permissions' or somewhere else. I want to know how different these apps are from the other general apps?
Would you like to make a technical explanation for these apps?

Thank you in advance.

If the apps don't show up on your homepage or your apps page they are probably pre installed factory apps and incompatible for your device!
Tell ya how to find out.
Go to play store, menu, my apps and games, then all apps. If you find the apps there tap on them. Then it might say -incompatible for your device -. If it does that means when your device was originally programed they installed a standard package of apps! And it's a good bet that some of these apps are for older model phones and they won't work in your phone anyway!
Un fortunately the only way to get rid of them is to reroot your device.
Hope that answers your question
Lindsay:)

I almost forgot.
In order to find these apps in play store, you must be on the older version of play store. I don't know what version of play store you have, but the factory installed version of play store in my galaxy s5 shows these apps. But even i have to go to the apps manager and uninstall updates for play store just to see them!
And right now i have 15 apps that are incapatible!

Thank you, Lindsay.
An example of these special apps for my phone is 'Google Play services'.

Play services is a whole different animal!
That's your main systems app. The only place it shows up is in the apps manager.
There is no icon to put on your home screen because it is constantly running and cannot be shut off! The same applies with all your systems apps. The only thing you can do with these apps is adjust some of the settings and clear the data!

Maybe its because of compatibility issues that it doesn't show up

Some apps such as 'Google Play services' have not any 'activities' and don't need to be launched by end users. So they have not any icons on home screen.
