problems connecting to data

Hello!
I got a new phone a few months ago, and it doesn't want to connect to anything but the edge network. I can force it to connect to wcdma network and it will sometimes connect to 3G or H briefly, but then looses the network. If I can manage to get a video to play it will hold the connection a little longer, but it still won't hold for long. Once or twice in the last few months it's connected all by itself. I never had problems with my old phone (another nexus 4) so i know that t-mobile's network isn't the problem. Does anyone know how to fix this?
