Can I update my phone after rooting it?

If you use the rooting to unlock your phone to any network can it be updated after or will i lose the rooting? Thanks.

So if my phone is rooted, but everything is stock(ROM, kernel, etc) I can update without any problems?

i've just purchased a wich seems to be rooted lg g2 , i have been trying to upgrade from jellybeen to lolipop , but i keep getting the same message, authentification error, and i downloaded the pc suite but it doesn't detect my phone.

Please what's the problem , and if possible how can i fix it

Yeah, you would be able to update it, but it voids the warranty of your device, so think twice.

As i said i'm very new at this, i'm glad i asked the experts before going all noobacrazy on the phone.

I have recently purchased this phone from a guy ( open market ), and i fond this ''kingo root'' app installed '' that's how i figured it was rooted, besides the authentification error message, i can't check my imei using #*06# ( i don't know what this means ), the only thing i fond on the internet is how to mount a lollipop sprint ROM using cyanogenmode ! ( not sure how to do it exactly ) but i can follow the instructions and hope for the best i guess.

as for stock recovery i'm afraid that :

1st/ i have no idea what i'm supposed or how to do it.
2nd/ if i succeed it would become network locked,, ( it happened to me with an S2 once )
3rd/ The professional repairer in my city , to which i took my phone, said it was risky to go ....well hard brick as you said

you can do 3 things
1st use the device as it is in .. don't unroot or apply update . use it in your current Android version

2nd. take some risk unroot your device
watch some videos on YouTube and download stock from from xda site and flash it
well it is risky for newbie ( I have rooted my device 8 times
unrooted 9 times
applied cyanogenmod 3 times
applied resurrection rom 3 times on htc device and many more)

all you need is a video tutorials from YouTube and guts 😁

3rd .. go to service center and ask him to fix it

on more opinions I wanna give

just call that person from which you had buy that phone and tell him to fix it
if he rooted the device then he can unroot it also

So i guess unrooting here i come, i pray god i don't end up with brick in my hands !!!

I can't really tell you how much i appreciated your early replies, and valuable help... But for what it's worth You have my sincerest expressions of gratitude...may you root and unroot blissfully for the rest of your life mate

PS1: i bought it cheep from a dude in the market, i have no means to get a hold of them + believe me he ain't no expert.
PS2: Seriously, i'm the only expert in here in this town, just by knowing how to poste a help request on the internet loool ( sad but true ).

I will also say that if you have the memory that will be taken for doing the update then you can update your rooted phone easily.

There are two ways to upgrade your phone.

1- via OTA :You can't use this if you've a rooted device
2- via flashing an updated firmware: you will actually need root permission to do this

I downloaded official update of my phone lenovo X2-AP.
i had rooted my device just one day back and didn't know that device shouldn't be updated with its root on,so i went on to install the update.
since then my phone is providing the 4 options under lenovo recovery on the screen:

1.reboot
2.install package update - install failed
3.wipe user data-wiped already,didn't work
4.poweroff

what should i do now to switch on my phone?

You will simply lose Root Access. You should be able to update you firmware.

Yes you can, but you will have to rub out cache data and system data.
