You'll need to install ADB and Fastboot on your computer so that you can flash TWRP custom recovery on your device. Before doing it, remember to back up your files.

You need to unlock the bootloader, upgrade it to the latest firmware, install Magisk Manager, pull boot.img out of the latest firmware .zip from Google (developers.google.com/android/images), copy the boot.img to the phone, use Magisk Manager to modify it, pull the modified boot image to your PC (the modified copy will be put in downloads), then use fastboot to burn it to the current slot.
