Hi guys,

Last week we were talking about how Google is planning on getting rid of porn and erotic apps from the Play Store. What do you think of this? People can still get these types of content elsewhere, but removing it, it shows that Google doesn't condone this type of material on their site because of the number of younger kids going on the site.

What do you think? A good move? One that is against sexual freedom? Will it help to stem the problems of younger people being able to buy adult content?

Answer here or in the comments under the article Porn and erotic apps now banned from Play Store.

It is not a good step. People please try to understand business behind this.Let me explain my views on this.
1. Never admire Google for this step.
Does Google really want to restrict people from such materials ? A big NO.
Google , (Google.com) got so much attention and this company risen because it allowed such materials. Many people just started using internet and Google only for this material. If Google is so innocent then why don't they block everything from their website called Google.com.
They won't do that because it just a "BUSINESS". A simple business. Google will die if they block the content.

2. Google allowed any kind of apps without any restriction in early days because they wanted developers to make use of Google play.Google wanted their store to fill with apps. Now play store has reached its height and now Google don't want developers to publish any kind of apps. Now Google is introducing policies to remove apps they don't like or I would say apps that are not so money generating for Google.(Yes , truecaller steals your contacts and other stuff. Has Google blocked it ? )

3.Many apps were removed for not so good reason. This is not ethical behavior of Google. Apple had same restrictions over developers in early stage and now. Windows 8 , even though store have not much apps , they have same restrictions on developers. They could have done business removing restrictions like Google but they did not. and its good thing.

4. Google has absolutely no rights talking about user transparency and fairness. I only respect Google for technology transformations but not for their business.
This diamond has risen from black carbon !!!

5 My last view , many people wont be with me , but whats wrong in such contents , I think with adaptation process , age limits are going down. Instead of making hype of such thing we should train our children about this.

Well, it is a good idea but a bit too far. Why not simply an 18+ section for that???

Well, they could push them a bit further, unless sth. Like "porn" appears in the search tag. Or shove them into 18+ section, which would also help that children won't get to those sites by mistake...

I agree on opening a new adults only section which can be age controlled and be done with it. I don't really care about adult content on playstore but I do care about implications of this. As a user and an adult I want unlimited access to everything and although maybe I won't be interested in such content I want the option of it available. I don't care about anyone's kids except mine. It's their parents duty to control what they can and cannot see on the net. I certainly won't leave parenting to google and the likes. But, it's funny how we get overprotective when it's about our children and quick to blame someone else for our laziness as parents.

Surely is. That parents who sue Google or Apple coz of that is simply hilarious...
But Google could do it like Amazon where you can turn off IAP in whole. But one nice thing would bringing back the pin... I mean have someone with a 20 char password with the weirdest symbols it is and what a kind of hassle it is to enter it...

Yeah , but why now ? Why didn't they do it before ? Didn't they know about it ? Were there not sites which had +18 section before ? A great innovative company didn't have the idea to isolate app store with additional +18 category ?

I am getting a sense that , world is revolving around Google and it force people to do what Google likes at every instance of time.
"Today I allow because I need it, tomorrow I don't allow because I say people hate it" :D

People are getting dependent on Google and people have had to follow their business strategy , knowingly or unknowingly.
We need an alternative. Yes. We need an alternative.

[I am not against Google. I am against their unethical valueless business.]

Yeah, I think an age-confirmed section of the Play Store makes a lot more sense. Something you can only register for if you have a credit card or some other way of verifying your age to Google.

It certainly seems hypocritical that porn is everywhere on the net but Google is taking a stance against apps that deal with such content in the Play Store. If people want it they'll find it, with or without the Play Store's help.

Much like blocking CM Installer because it ''promotes the voiding of warranties'' I think all the Play Store really needs are attached warnings or a separate section for modders, perverts, IAP fans etc.

Google deciding what we're allowed and not allowed to access. A step away from freedom towards tyranny.

They aren't deciding what we can access, just what appears in their store.
Yku are still free to install any apks...

@Kris, no to credit cards. Why not just a scan of your ID or sth. Not all of the world is USA, where everyone has a credit card...

I totally agree this rule. Children are safe when they install apps or games. If adult people wanna search for porn, they can try on some 3rd stores.

Not happy about it. Parents should be the one responsible in restricting their kids from accessing these porn sites/apps.
