I'm super familiar with some TV boxes. I've tried a handful of them. I have a specific application where I need to use it for TV and also local storage movies and music, but it has to go to a separate stereo system that is NOT part of a TV or have any HDMI inputs. (it's a boat)
The ones I've tried, all have an analog 3.5mm headphone out, and all the ones I've tried sound like utter crapola! I mean, they sound BAAAD. I took one home and measured the audio output and found that it was about 15dB low from 500Hz down from any other headphone output device I tried. This is really important, I need GOOD audio coming out of this thing.
If any of you with newer "good" boxes could possibly hook up a pair of headphones and see if it sounds great or if it sounds like a$$ and report back, I would appreciate it. I don't want to consider any boxes for less than $45, and it has to be a new model.
I really need one that sounds normal on the analog out.
