My Whatsapp data didn't restore

I regularly back up my Whatsapp chats on google drive, accumulated 2.1 GB of back up on google drive. Last time I backed up my chats was today. I had to reinstall the app leading to the usage of the restoration option upon install. Immediately afterward I noticed my chat history and media was gone. Only the chats I backed up today are present. I clearly still poses the 2.1 GB back up file in my google drive, I would appreciate your guidance in figuring out how to make use of it.
P. S. I tried reinstalling and using the restore method once more but it didn't help

Copy your full backup files to the internal storage, and then try to reinstall and restore from local db.
