Will my old whatsapp contacts transfer to strangers phone?

Hi. I have a question about WhatsApp.
Recently, my SIM card has been deactivated, and today WhatsApp noticed this and wouldn't let me continue unless I used another number.

Anyway, to the point:
I have wondered, what would happen if, lets say, someone buys a sim card that has my old phone number? Will my WhatsApp data transfer onto a strangers phone, if they have the same phone number??? If yes, what must I do???

Lets say I have not gotten a new number and uninstalled WhatsApp. What would happen in such a case?

I think that would effectively shut down the account untill you reinstall it again.
But I'm not sure!
Since Facebook purchased WhatsApp it's been acting quite weird.

Your old sims card will not be re-sold.
Your old phone number will be re-issued to someone else on a new Sims card.
As far as your WhatsApp contacts,
When you got your new number and applied it to your WhatsApp account, that should have blocked your old number from accessing your account.
