Lost Google Paly store on Android 7

How can i get Google Play store Back on my phone. App upgrades are stuck on downloading without going beyond this. There is no Google Play store icon on my phone now.

In general, Google Play Store is a stock app on Android phones. A factory reset?

I agree with James, A factory reset can solve this problem or you can try to download it using a PC to access Play Store and get it from there to install it on your phone.

Thanks for these comments.
Though I have no Google Play Store Icon any more I can access it via a google search, When I try to do any upgrade it starts to download and does not go beyond the downloading message.
Any further suggestions short of a factory reset?

So try to wipe cache and data of Play Store. You can do that accessing Setting/Apps/PlayStore. If it doesn't work, I can't see any other solution unless factory reset.

Since the play store is a system app! The only way to get it back is by either being rooted and installing it.
Download the play store from the browser on your phone, from a site like xda or here and sideload it.

Tried twice this morning, once with error then all apps upgraded having deleted google play store cache earlier.

I ran google play store from a google search. How can I get an icon for it on my desktop?

Install a launcher. If you wanna a total solution, a factory reset is the best.
