A couple days ago, my camera started not showing or allowing me to edit any photos taken with the camera. In Gallery, it only shows them as a pale gray square and clicking on it has no effect. If I open the photo from File Explorer, it shows for a second and then goes back to the Explorer. I've cleared the Gallery cache, as well as the System cache. It doesn't matter whether the photos are saved to the card or system storage. It also doesn't matter if I use a 3rd party camera app.

Interestingly, if I connect to a desktop/laptop I can copy the photos over and they're fine. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mark

  1. You can firstly try to restart your Android device. After that, please check whether the disappeared images come out in the Gallery APP or not.

  2. If the method above doesn't work for you, you should make sure that there is no ".nomedia" file in the folder where your photos taken with the camera are saved.
If the media scanner detects this ".nomedia" file, data in that folder which contains this ".nomedia" file will not be displayed in the Android Gallery App. So, you should check whether there are ".nomedia" files. If yes, please delete them from that folder.

Thanks, it had been restarted multiple times. I've searched for any '.nomedia' files, there are none in the folders where images are saved.

As default, '.nomedia' files can't be found as they are hidden ones. You should enable the option to show hidden files in order to find all '.nomedia' files.

That did cross my mind. I've actually done a complete factory reset and re-installed everything. Seems OK now.
