I have a Samsung tablet SM-T818V i have had whatsapp on it through an APK for a few months now, it worked with no problem, just today i realized that its only getting backed up locally and wanted to set up to be backed up to gmail drive, when i did that after a few minutes my whatsapp froze and kept on crashing and couldn't go in, so i uninstalled from my tablet and reinstalled now after the verification number i see that its trying to get the backup from gmail and after a second it crashes

Uninstall it, then get the latest package installer from Google Play Store or the official website of Whatsapp. Try to install It again.

If you can't find the package yet, feel free to let me know. I have shared it on One Drive.

Thanks James, somehow after waiting a few hours it passed the restore page and started whatsapp,
Now how do I keep up with updating whatsapp on my tablet as I can't get it from Google play?

Can't you get Apps from Google Play?

If then, you may visit the official website of Whatsapp periodically to check the latest version released.
