Problems with whatsup on my android tablet

I have a proline tablet it works very nice, but seems to have an issue with whatsup. I have installed whatsup several times, checked all my settings, but cannot not get the app to play sound when I receive an incoming message. The popup shows on the screen, but there is no sound. Please tell me what is wrong.

Go to Settings - Notifications & status bar - Notifications management - WhatsApp,
make sure to have enabled both the option 'Allow notifications' and the option 'Ringtone'.

Yes, the solution given by James should work for you. I also solved the sound issue the same way
