Hi boys & girls,

here's a hard one. :D

Honestly I don't believe there is a solution to my problem, but I wanted to try AndroidPIT as my last opportunity.

Many years ago I registered at WhatsApp using my then-number "A". After a few years I got a new Number "B". I inserted the new sim card and everything worked perfectly fine. But here's the issue: I forgot to change my account number from A to B via the WhatsApp "change number" function.

One month ago my Phone crashed. Fortunately I did backup all of my files a few days before that happened, including the complete "WhatsApp" directory in Android's root folder.

On my new phone I inserted my current sim card (number B) and then after WhatsApp told me there is no existing account with this number, I remembered I had forgotten something very important :(

So the problem is, I cannot access my original account. As I said, I backed up all of my photos, videos. That's not the problem. But since I didn't change my number officially I cannot access all of my groups.

Additionally to this I have no longer access to my old number A, my contract is cancelled and this number has been blocked for 5 years before I can make a new contract with this number.

As I already wrote, I don't think there is a solution to grant access to my original account. Am I right?
Or do you guys know any way to "tell" WhatsApp I am the owner of number A, because I have a complete backup? Or is there a possibility to (legally) change the number without sms verification?

I'd really appreciate your hints, if there is anything I can do :)

Cheers
Julian

Hi Julian,

welcome to AndroidPIT! :)

I would love to tell you otherwise, but there is sadly no way to use the backup as long as you don't have access to the old number. The backup only works if you use the same number again :( Sorry, that I don't have better news for you.

Do you still have access to the whatsapp via your old number even that number is blocked over a year?

Hi Julian
In addition to what Bastian said!
By now your old number could have been issued to someone else!
And that would mean that you are trying to access someone else's account and you would need their pin or password to be successful.
And you would only get their information.
Anyway welcome to Android Pit!

Yes, actually to this problem there is only one answer either you should have your old number for verification
and they will send the OTP. Unfortunately, they do not have any email verification process.
