Phone App Recently Called Suggestions Problem

I got my android one recently. its general mobile gm 5 and works well. updated it to 7.1.1 with no problems. but in phone app for me it seems to struggles. when i call someone it shows in call history. but when i type same number sometime later it does not show me as suggested. it only shows contacts in suggestion bar. on another phone with 5.1 this feature works perfectly. even cheap 1 gen phones have feature but it seems to not work with me and is a real struggle. have others encountered same problem? is there any solution?
