Hard to say, but I do notice that a lot of people are using Android devices in Asia. May have to do with the price difference, etc.

Recently I read an article on mobile marketing watch that shows a research on Android and iOS users, and it was not a surprise for me when iOS user are found to be more loyal with their platform.

I am Daniel Jones, Working with Kiwitech as app developer. I enjoy exploring apps on various mobile platforms.

For techies, Android will always be the winner.
For common folk, iOS was the winner until recently, and now it seems the tide is turning.

When it comes to pure profit, Apple knows how to squeeze the most out of every device. But we'll see what kind of innovations they can come up with, now that Steve Jobs is gone. I haven't been too impressed by their most recent devices, but I'm always ready for them to surprise me.

It used to be iOS, but Android are gradually taking over. They are more reliable, but there will always be a place for the stylishness of iPhones that will keep them popular.

Some current stats from StatCounter, released yesterday. My summary here:
The original report here:
and some (slightly inconsistent) figures I wrote about last week, here:
The StatCounter report covers the last twelve months. The earlier report from Kantor covers a three month period. But it's interesting that their figures don't match up. What do you think of all this bean counting?

Android and iOS both are popular in application market. People use Android or iOS based Smartphone as per their requirements, so its difficult to say that who is winner? But generally people prefer Android because so many Android apps are available in Play Store.

Right you are Kevin, the Google Play Store now has more downloads than the Apple App Store - the first time ever. The trend seems to indicate Android will only continue to extend its lead in various areas, but Apple still make way more money (2.3x) than Google from the sale of their apps! While that's bad news for Google it's great news for Android owners as we have so many free and cheap apps to choose from!

Yep. 'Competition fuels innovation' ;)

Btw, I think the whole discussion could be fragmented according to geolocation - I think Android is more popular in Asia, while iOS in the West.

Interesting that you say the preferences are geographical. I lived in Asia for a while in 2011, and by casual observation it seemed iPhones were still more popular, although admittedly it's hard to say how many were knock-offs. (I saw one that looked like an iPhone but just said "Phone" where normally it would say iPhone.) However, that was pre-ICS, and I think Android has gotten a lot popular with recent developments.

On the other hand, I think having an Apple device still is a status symbol, because many Android smartphones are still budget devices, and none are as easily recognizable by brand.
