is it possible to manualy upgrade from android 2.2.2 to higher os?

I have an LG optimus s and I know there are higher android versions out there, yet when I click system updates nothing happens. so is it possible to manually update my android version?

2.2.2 is the most recent os officially released by LG for the phone.

There's a few forums where you can download unofficial roms, the one above, xda, and modaco are a couple, try a google search.

You may try this process.
I would suggest to kindly use the official method of going to Settings –> About Phone –> Software Update and then it offers to update via Wi-Fi or cellular data. Alternatively, you can install the PC suite and plugin the mobile to the PC and the suite software will detect the firmware installed and will give you an update option to the latest firmware available for the mobile model. This is the easiest and official way of doing it.
