Samsung Galaxy S5 Active — Does S5 take special male plug for earbuds?

Have tried 3 kinds of earbuds and one type of headphones and all male plugs are just a little too small. They all fit outputs on my desktop snugly but all are loose on the phone. Is plug on phone defective?
