"Checking for new messages" - no new message?

Hi,
So basically my WhatsApp is often giving me the notification "Checking for new messages" 1 second before actually delivering the Message. I always thought the notification was some kind of Indicator for a message coming through.
But lately, I've often noticed this notification coming but without a message (also not in the next few hours).
I've read explanations of muted Group Chats (?) but that can't be the case since I do not have any muted chats at all.
Is it only a check of WhatsApp after getting internet again without actually being an indicator for a new message?

Thanks for helping me here, I am kinda paranoid that my messages are getting lost
