server for database connection

hi,
I am trying to develop android app and trying to develop connection between excel and android. Please confirm whether the Server needs to be run for accessing excel database? or Importing jars alone is enough..

I think you need to develop a web service which will be hosted on the same server as your excel file will locate. Your app just needs to connect to that web service.
