How to stop unwanted calls and messages on my phone?

I don't want to answer the unnecessary calls like telemarketers etc and also don't want to receive any promotional messages on my android phone. I want to block unwanted calls as well as identify & stop spam, scam and fraud. So can anyone suggest me how can i stop this?
