The same as i bought Samsung Galaxy S7, so many frustrating things that i must to transfer all the contacts, SMS, photos and more from my old S6 to it.
i got many solutions that can be done but no being direct, the easiest way is using : www.recoverymobiledata.com/Mobile_Transfer/ , not only protect your privacy but also give u complete data. try it , hope you get you old memories back.

To sync data from old Android to Samsung phones, use Samsung Kies from Samsung themselves (why use a third party software when there is a free tool from Samsung)
