Samsung Galaxy S5 — No tone in text message

I had an update maybe 2 weeks ago on my Sprint GS5. I am running the Android 4.4.4 on Model #SM-G900p. After this update i no longer get a tone (yes volume is high and not on silent) alert while text message is open in a conversation. A new message just appears with no alert or vibration. I have to exit out of text message or go to home screen to get an alert to sound.

This has been my problem too since S4 and I've given up looking for a fix.
