"downloading everything" It's now don't problem, because most of tablets avaliable SD card for 32, 64 Gb and more. I am using low cost chinese tablet DEX IP977, and they me absolutly satisfied. 2gb RAM, 4 core 1.5 Gh, screen 9.7 with resolution 2560*1920, 16Gb memory + SD card 32 gb. These parameters to date more than enough, and the manufacturer you choose to have your financial opportunities.

Perhaps a good option price / performance / quality - can be considered "Lenovo Yoga Tablet 10" HD Plus B8080 3G 16GB", or "LG G Pad 8.3 V500" and of course Google Nexus.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 Kids could be great for your son. But if you want to have a tab that you could use as well, getting the Samsung Tab 4 Nook, iPad Mini 2 or Google Nexus 7 is also a great idea.

I suggest you to buy Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4. It has a 8.4 inch display. I really like this Tab. It has 32 GB internal memory and external memory up to 128 GB. So downloading and space is not a problem with this device. So I think going to Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.4 would be the best option for your son.

Well, @shayla mihaly Personally I am going to suggest you getting a Nexus line of tablets because they are powerful as well as quick and will be under your budget too. Anyway I would say if you keep running onto confusion you can have a look over the post Best Android Tablets of 2014. See if that helps you with the search ! :)

Would suggest going for Huawei MediaPad X2. Good value for money and runs best. Been using it for a year now.
