Presuming you have the latest version of Android running on your Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1), here is how to take a screenshot:

  1. Hold down on the POWER BUTTON and the VOLUME DOWN BUTTON simultaneously, but keep them held for 1-2 seconds.

  2. Wait until you hear a sound or see an animation on the screen.

The screenshot will be saved in your "screenshots" folder, which can be accessed via the gallery.

There you have it :)

Thanks; this didn't work consistently for me. What does seem to work is just to click and release both buttons quickly and simultaneously. The white border pops up a second or two later, and you get the notice that the screenshot is saved.

Pressing the power and the home key together will save your screenshot
