Google Nexus 4 — Texting from abroad

My wife is visiting her sister in Canada. We live in the UK. She emailed me last night to tell me that she is unable to send or receive texts on her Nexus 4. Before she left I disabled data roaming and mobile data. My understanding is that she should be able to use the Nexus 4 to make and receive calls and texts without using data.

Any advice please.

Well, yes she might be able to make and receive call if you are subscribed with international roaming. I think you should try giving your service provider a call asking about the facility of international roaming. :)

Thanks. Problem solved. I managed by exchanging emails to discover that my wife's phone had not actually logged on to any Canadian mobile network.:O Once that was rectified all was well.:)
