So it looks like Samsung might be a year behind Apple in adding a fingerprint scanner to their new smartphones. The Note 3 came and went without the addition, despite the code existing as far back as the S3. But supply chain issues and an official who claims Samsung's manufacturer is ''a year behind Apple's'' makes it look like the technology won't be appearing in Samsung devices anytime soon. What are your thoughts? Do you care? Do we even need fingerprint scanners on our phones?

This is truly a matter of personal preference. I've always ran into issues when using one. Play so much guitar, most of my fingertips are completely callused over with no fingerprint to be found. My last job used a fingerprint scanner for time punches and would cause nothing but problems. Maybe an eye scanner would bear better results. Na, not necessary for my purposes.

I personally have no interest in a finger print scanner, it's just a gimmick to milk the Apple fans of more money and one more thing to go wrong, I gave my wife my Iphone 4 as the screen was to small for me, I bought a Galaxy note 2 and I love it, I have now sold my Ipad 3 and bought a Galaxy note 10.1 4G LTE and now I love this too, I will buy the new Notes next year, Samsung and Apple can carry on fighting with each other I just hope that we the customers gain all the benefits.

I don't see fingerprint scanners to be functional at all, but it would be the next unlocking standart. I prefer 4-digit code, but who ask for my opinion.

We asked for your opinion @Emanuela! The thing is, as fingerprint scanners, biometric sensors and iris scanning become more embedded in our smartphones, I expect you will always have the option to use a PIN or pattern lock instead. Some people simply don't care about military grade security and prefer the older methods. If it aint broke, don't fix it, as they say. But I guess it's nice to know superior security is coming if you want it.
