What? You can run non-market apps easily just by checking the box in the settings. Otherwise, how would 3rd party markets work?

Some carriers block unkown sources in there phones, att did for a long time, not sure if they still do. In these cases you have to root the phone first.

Wow I didn't know that. I guess that's one of the advantages of living internationally... I haven't had to deal with that yet. ::O

Ive never seen a case where you cant do that. That would mean companies like Gameloft couldnt sell apps from their own website.

This was implemented in the Backflip due to the limited screen space and Blackberry like interface. This device was aimed at BB users.

I have seen some solutions from the XDA site . Have a look and good luck

And yeah, Chris is right. There are workarounds on XDA to overcome this. Have a look there if you think thats the issue.
