My HTC hero has a problem with bluetooth. it can see other devices but will not work eg on handsfree or with bluetooth controller , sharing files etc

What Version of Android do you have on your Hero? 1.6 or 2.1?

The Bluetooth support with 1.6 is not very good.

You can try the app [app]Bluetooth File Transfer[/app]. That should solve your problem.
