two phones same number

Hi everyone, I know this is android but I can't find any info on apple and was hoping someone could help.
I had an Iphone Se 2020 phone, but lost almost 2 years ago, I bought a new phone a month or so later and kept the same number, but used a different carrier.

I recently got a whatsapp notification on my new phone saying new carrier would you like to change number. (I have not applied for a new carrier)
Could the person who has the old phone be hacking into my account and be able to see or create messages and or calls ?

Your help would be appreciated

Hi,
My name is James am from New York City. I have a Balloon Delivery business in NYC and have been an iPhone user for two years. I have never faced anything in the last two years and also you can keep relaxed because iPhone has complete security. Whatsapp can be used only on one device. You can run your website only on one Android and iPhone device and 4 desktop devices. So I can say this is not hacking; everything is safe and sound.
