Been using WhatsApp on my Android for ages, but I just got a new iPhone and have registered WhatsApp on it with the same number, however, I didn't realize I would lose visible access to all my old messages on the Android. I plan on going back to AT&T, have them activate my old Android again, and then I'll put in a SIM card using the same number, and then re-activate my old WhatsApp so I can see all my messages again and export them? That will work, right?

I just did this today and I realized I need to backup some important text messages first. I'd like to save those messages from the Android before I start completely using WhatsApp on my iPhone. I've saved the DB files just in case. I plan on de-regestering Whatsapp on the iPhone first. I want to make sure I am doing things correctly so that I don't accidentally overwrite my old messages (if that is even possible).

thank you for the help.

The easiest and most recommended method to transfer WhatsApp conversations from Android to iPhone is to take advantage of some reliable PC utility such as Dr.Fone.

Download size < 0.15 MB. But also accurate enough, ad-free & free.
The minimalist app available on Play Store: https://goo.gl/ws42fN
Blog: https://okblackcafe.blogspot.com Your 5-star is appreciated.

Yes, but will Dr Fone allow me to view/save all my Android WhatsApp messages without me being logged into WhatsApp on that phone? Preferably, I'd like to access my old messages on the Android, and I need to know if simply re-registering/activating it with the same number will give me access to my old messages. I don't see why that wouldn't, but you never know for sure until you do it. Just don't want to chance losing anything, and hoping to hear from someone who has done this before.

Thanks again.

Not sure if you backed up your conversations to Google Drive when you opened WhatsApp on that Android phone.
Sorry that I have not actually experienced the same situation as yours. But I know Dr. Fone has a free trial version. Maybe you can have a try by yourself. Or you can contact the customer service of this utility at first.
Good luck to you.
