confused about the available system images in SDK Manager...

Hi,

I am confused about the available system images in SDK Manager. Refer to the screenshot as above, please.

  1. What's the difference between Google Play System Image and Google APIs System Image?
  2. What's the difference between Google Play System Image and a general image such as Intel x86 Atom System Image?
  3. Why is not there an ARM System Image for Android 8.0.0(API 26) while it is availabe for Android 7.0(API 24)?

Hello James,

The play image has the Google Play store already installed and you can install apps, but there is no root access as it is a production build and not a debug build. If you don't have the specific need of having Google Play on your emulator, just choose a Google API image.
ARM images are less used. Generally you need an ARM image if you're working on a non-Intel PC that needs to emulate virtualization (only Intel processors have built-in virtualization).
If you don't find an image there, in the repository, it means it has not been developed (yet, perhaps).

I noticed that only 2 of those items are checked but none of them are installed.
Could these items be part of a APK package that you don't use, that were installed in a update?
The fact that they are on your hard drive,
But not installed might be that they are incapable for your device!
I have found many programs like this in my laptop and phone.
And the only explanation is that they are part of a update package, and could not be separated from it!

These items are not part of an APK package. They are Android SDK for Windows.

I have had SDK (API 18). I am downloading SDK (API 24）and SDK (API 26).

Download size < 0.15 MB. But also accurate enough, ad-free & free.
