New launcher on the New Kindle Fire (2?)?

So I bought my wife a new kindle fire 7 in for Christmas. It was the basic, non HD one, but it was brand new (so I guess second generation). I found an article about putting Go Launcher on it but everything I've tried has failed. I've also tried other launchers to no help. Is this a loophole that Amazon fixed in the second generation or am I just dumb? Or is there any other launcher that works on the new kindles? My wife probably doesn't want me rooting her new Christmas present either (not that I would feel that comfortable doing that anyway). Thanks for the help.
