Smart phone and walkie talkie,what are the advantages and disadvantages of them？

I really wonder why now few persons use walkie talkies,as many years ago they are so popular. And if anyone can lift my confuse?

I think the answer is relatively straight forward. When walkie talkies were popular cell phones did not exist as they are today. The few phones that there were, were large, cumbersome and cost a small fortune to talk on. As cell phones got cheaper smaller they became a much better option than walkie talkie manly because of the limited range of walkie talkies 1 to 2 miles at best. those are my thought on the subject anyway.
