Apart from the confirmed launch date of the Nothing Phone (2), the UK-based startup already provided some key specifications of the upper mid-range Android phone, including the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. However, a fresh report points to the planned hardware upgrade in the second-gen transparent phone ending up as a whole lot pricier than the Phone (1). This will happen in at least one region.
The Nothing Phone (1) that Antoine reviewed currently retails for under $400 on Amazon, which is a fair price compared to other mid-range phones with comparable specifications. However, based on the claim of French news outlet Dealabs, the Nothing Phone (2) is set to arrive with a shocking price increase in at least one European country, which would most likely be an indication of how much the handset will cost in other parts of Europe.
The Nothing Phone (2) could be a lot more expensive than Phone (1)
It appears the base model of the Nothing Phone (2) with an 8/256 GB storage configuration will be priced at €729 (~$800) in France. Meanwhile, the next step up would be a 12/512 GB memory model that is priced at €849 (~$930), which is close to double the cost of its predecessor. If this were to be true, this will position the Phone (2) slightly below the Galaxy S23 (review) with the higher-end variant being on par with the OnePlus 11.
At the same time, it remains unknown whether these alleged Nothing Phone (2) prices will differ greatly from other countries like the USA once the device is available officially. Based on the company’s current strategy, the US will most probably see a lower price tag due to excluded taxes. Having said this, we might see the final sticker price still being lower Stateside.
Regarding the other specifications, the Nothing Phone (2) is expected to bring a larger display along with a bigger battery capacity and a semi-transparent USB cable, all of which point to a higher cost and thus, a price adjustment. The recent teaser material also revealed an updated Glyph lighting interface behind. The device should be powered by the Nothing OS which is based on Google’s Android 13 at launch.
In a separate report, it was also spotted by a Twitter tipster that Nothing has filed a trademark-related certification for an unannounced device in India. While the listing did not reveal anything apart from the D395 trademark number, it is believed this could be the company’s first-ever smartwatch, which could be revealed later this year.
If it all goes according to plan, this Nothing ‘Watch’ might feature a transparent design language as with other products from the brand. Perhaps, Nothing’s unique Glyph LED lighting may also find its way to the wearable as well.
