500: maintenance mode

Greetings from the Engine Room!

Sorry, but there's really nothing to see here right now. Our server is in maintenance mode – and our little bot is trying to sort the error messages with its last bit of energy.

Whether it was a data leak, a power outage in the cluster, or just a grumpy bit – we don't know yet. But what we do know is:

The data drama escalated into a server meltdown. But don't worry: We're on it.

What now?

  • Everything is surely running smoothly over at our colleagues from inside digital – why not stop by!
  • Or you could pass the time by visiting our social media channels – for example Instagram, YouTube or TikTok. At least there are no server problems there – promised.

Thanks for your patience. Our bot is already rebooting at full speed. 🔧

Here's to a happy new year: Five tech predictions for 2023
Good morning, dear 2023! You are only a few hours old and I already have a headache because of you. At least that's what I suspect, because I'm writing these lines on December 21. And although you are still so young, dear 2023, I want to gaze into the crystal ball to see what you will bring us in the tech world this year.

Christmas tech tale: Die Hard is a Christmas movie!
Merry Christmas or happy holidays to all of you. Just like every year since I joined NextPit, I had fun writing my traditional Christmas tale filled with dubious jokes and obscure geek references.

Opinion: Samsung just went from worst to best in Android updates
Samsung early days in the Android ecosystem were rocky at best. I still remember an acquaintance who, to this day, won't buy smartphones from the South Korean brand because of the lack of updates for their Samsung Galaxy. I am referring to the original, the i7500 Galaxy, which was launched way back in 2009. Guess what? 13 years later, Samsung's update policy is the best among Android-powered smartphones.

Why hasn't Apple Glass happened yet?
Throughout the year, we review various devices and report on the most interesting things that happen in the world of technology. A few days before the end of the year, however, it is inevitable to also remember what did not happen. One particular matter that stood out like a sore thumb for us was the Apple Glasses. Apple has been investing in Augmented Reality since 2017, when it launched the AR Kit, but it is already 2022, and once again, rumors and predictions have proven to be nothing more but pure speculation. This made me wonder: why hasn't Apple Glass become reality yet?

Samsung One UI 5 review: Beautiful like a rainbow!
When I reviewed the beta version of One UI 5, I believed that it would not be possible for Samsung to surprise me in 2022... Oh boy, was I wrong! Without a doubt, this is the most advanced Android-based software we can find on the market today. We have reviewed the latest version of the South Korean manufacturer's operating system on the Galaxy S22 Ultra, and these are our thoughts. Related: Which Samsung phones will receive the Android 13 update?

Big lenses on smartphones: Stupid idea or a stroke of genius?
Out of the blue, Xiaomi presented a prototype version of its flagship 12S Ultra smartphone with an outlandish M-Mount fitted to a $,6000 Leica lens. The Chinese brand is not the first to try the concept, which seems like a great idea at first, but failed on more than one occasion as we will seein this article.

USA x China semiconductors embargo explained
A few days ago, the United States Government announced further restrictions on selling equipment to Chinese-owned companies. Different from past embargoes, such as the one applied against Huawei and other device and processor companies, the latest round seems to target suppliers to the Chinese military, but it could have a direct impact on the consumer goods we buy.

Faced with overpriced Apple and Samsung smartphones, is Xiaomi the voice of reason?
We're smack right in the middle of the flagship smartphone season, Apple and Samsung have hit us with smartphones that cost more than $1,000. Xiaomi intends to rain on their parade by disrupting the market with its Xiaomi 12T and Xiaomi 12T Pro handsets. This marketing strategy not only pays off for Xiaomi, but it's also much more relevant for us, the users and consumers.

This simple Android gesture would make iOS 16 so much more intuitive
Do you prefer virtual buttons or touch gestures to navigate your smartphone interface? Personally, I'm more of a gesture type of person. Scratch that, in fact, I'm a gesture person. And after spending two weeks reviewing the iPhone 14 Pro Max on a daily basis, I miss the navigation gestures on Android. The back gesture, in particular, has become a marvel of intuitiveness in my eyes compared to the system chosen by Apple for iOS 16.
