500: maintenance mode

Greetings from the Engine Room!

Sorry, but there's really nothing to see here right now. Our server is in maintenance mode – and our little bot is trying to sort the error messages with its last bit of energy.

Whether it was a data leak, a power outage in the cluster, or just a grumpy bit – we don't know yet. But what we do know is:

The data drama escalated into a server meltdown. But don't worry: We're on it.

What now?

  • Everything is surely running smoothly over at our colleagues from inside digital – why not stop by!
  • Or you could pass the time by visiting our social media channels – for example Instagram, YouTube or TikTok. At least there are no server problems there – promised.

Thanks for your patience. Our bot is already rebooting at full speed. 🔧

Is Apple Really a Role Model for Eco-friendliness?
Is Apple the eco-friendly role model for the tech industry, or even for companies in general? At the recently iPhone event, there was plenty of talk about sustainability, recycling, and emissions reduction, and how the Apple Watch 9 was the first carbon-neutral product from the company. In this article, I would like to take a closer look at Apple: Has Apple really taken the right, sustainable path, or are we just dealing with greenwashing yet again?

Inside Withings' Vision: Turning Your Home into a Doctor's Dream Lab
On a Friday night, I took my bike and rode from Friedrichshain to Mitte. It was still IFA season, and Berlin was once again at the center of the technology industry. I was headed to a Withings event in the back of another historic building in Berlin. I hadn't expected much, so perhaps that's why I was completely taken aback.

Too bad: The IFA 2023 was too much and for too few
IFA 2023 was, apart from the coronavirus-affected IFA in 2020, the quietest IFA ever in my life. Even on notoriously crowded days like the weekend where the public does not work, the show almost felt as though it was just the exhibitors who were present. That's also due to the IFA's general direction and the current situation.

Why Less is More: The Minimalist Tech with Maximal Impact
Have you ever had the feeling that you've been engaging in behaviors driven largely by inertia? As someone who has covered a dozen tech summits, I've always been searching for primary consumer interests such as smartphones. However, something changed this year at IFA 2023. The reason is straightforward: We are ingesting the equivalent of a credit card's worth of plastic every week... And there's a real way out of it!

Stop Obsessing About Your Smartphone's Spec Sheet, You're Being Fooled!
Stop obsessing over your smartphone's specs, that's an order! On a more serious note, the strict value for money of a smartphone is a vision of tech that I find increasingly toxic. Your phone doesn't have the latest Snapdragon SoC or five 200-megapixel photo sensors? What's the big deal? Who cares?

Honor V Purse 5G: Forward to the Past | Opinion
As a former Huawei subsidiary, Honor presented us with another foldable at the Berlin IFA last week alongside the Honor Magic V2, which was teased as a "future concept phone". Read why the Honor V Purse 5G, as a smartphone that folds outwards, is straight from the past in my opinion, and why it is even misogynistic from certain points of view. Don't miss: The best foldable smartphones

PlayStation Portal: Sony's Remote Player Falls Flat. Here's Why
Sony used Gamescom to introduce the highly anticipated PlayStation Portal Remote Player, which was previously known as "Project Q" unofficially. The device was supposed to be available before the end of the year, and I have had this question park in my head ever since the announcement: "Why are you launching this device, Sony?" I simply do not understand the product and that's what I want to talk to you about here.

Foldable Smartphones Are Still Too Expensive, and for Good Reason
Why is there still no affordable foldable smartphone in the market? Perhaps we can phrase the question another way: why do foldable smartphones cost more than $1,000 at the bare minimum? The trickle-down effect, in technology as in real life, doesn't apply here and that's no coincidence.
