500: maintenance mode

Greetings from the Engine Room!

Sorry, but there's really nothing to see here right now. Our server is in maintenance mode – and our little bot is trying to sort the error messages with its last bit of energy.

Whether it was a data leak, a power outage in the cluster, or just a grumpy bit – we don't know yet. But what we do know is:

The data drama escalated into a server meltdown. But don't worry: We're on it.

What now?

  • Everything is surely running smoothly over at our colleagues from inside digital – why not stop by!
  • Or you could pass the time by visiting our social media channels – for example Instagram, YouTube or TikTok. At least there are no server problems there – promised.

Thanks for your patience. Our bot is already rebooting at full speed. 🔧

SMARTWATCH & TRACKERS
Fitness Trackers: Doomed by Their Own Smartwatch Aspirations?
Do you like wearing fitness trackers? If you answered in the affirmative, then that's simply too bad because sooner or later, you will have to bid goodbye to the simple smart bands that you wear on your wrist. Fitness trackers tend to cannibalize themselves over time. At the end of the day, only smartwatches will remain, forming an entire product category by itself. You can find out what I am ranting about and how I came up with this in my opinion piece.

What is menstruation cycle tracking? What are the potential benefits of being aware of it? This is the first article in a series on women's health, in which I'll answer those questions and also delve into the history of cycle tracking and the role of technology in advancing it.

Foldable Wars: Motorola Strikes Back | Opinion
To everyone's surprise, Motorola, the former Google subsidiary, unveiled two clamshell foldable handsets this year. I would like to make a rather bold claim here: these are efforts to poach a few potential Galaxy Z Flip 5 customers from the market leader Samsung. Is this the dawn of another foldable superpower, or does the attack of the foldable clone fizzle out in the vast market? This is my opinion: In the end, Samsung always wins! It does not require two Sith Lords to upset the Rebel Alliance, it takes a dark force like the Death Apple instead!

Opinion | Samsung Should Stop Obsessing Over Converting Apple's Fans
Samsung did an outstanding job developing the foldable smartphone market and is by far the leader in the segment. However, its marketing push to "join the flip side" appears to be missing the mark by heavily obsessing over current iPhone users, so much so that it feels like the company forgot to give reasons for current Galaxy Z owners to upgrade in 2023.

WeChat vs. Twitter: Why Musk's Idea Is Doomed to Fail
WeChat is considered a Super App that virtually everyone in China uses. This is the business model that Elon Musk wants to adopt to transform Twitter into an equivalent Super App. This article will touch on two different things: What exactly is WeChat and what can the app do? The other would be, why is Musk's idea bound to fail by recreating WeChat as "X"?

From Skeptic to Fan? Two Galaxy Z Flip 5 Features That Won Me Over!
As a journalist dedicated to reviewing smart devices, I consistently focus on their unique features and ponder how a smartphone, like the Galaxy Z Flip 5, might be a great match for individuals with specific needs. I often find myself wondering what sets the device I'm testing apart. However, as time goes by, it's becoming increasingly difficult to pinpoint that uniqueness.

Matter Smart Home Standard: Is It Doomed to Fail?
Matter was supposed to be the panacea for all smart home incompatibilities. However, things have become rather quiet concerning the standard, and the matter (heh!) has begun to weigh rather heavily on the standard's shoulders. What has apparently gone wrong (or right) with Matter? Read more: Here's how Matter's smart home standard works

iOS 17 Puts You in Control, Not the Other Way Around | Opinion
I've spent the last two weeks exploring iOS 17. Now that Apple has rolled out the public beta, I thought it would be helpful to share my impressions of the new operating system. Consider this before you go ahead with the installation.

Crappy image quality: This is why no phone can replace my camera
"Somehow you get the impression that Sony doesn't want to cannibalize [sic] its system cameras."—as was mentioned in a comment on my latest smartphone review at nextpit. While smartphone manufacturers continue to improve the image quality in their handsets, one thing is becoming increasingly clear to me: it's not because of image quality that I prefer to shoot with cameras. Let me explain this matter in greater detail!

The Pixel Tablet May Look Dumb But It Is The First Real iPad Alternative | Opinion
Presented during Google I/O 2023, the Pixel Tablet felt awkward from the get-go. Is it really a tablet? Is it a smart display? Or maybe a Nest smart speaker with a detachable display? Given the sheer dominance of the iPad family, this was probably the best Google could do.
